Physician Assistant With the supervision of a Physician, (as per O.R.C. 4730) the PA-C provides medical care, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to patients with complex, acute, and chronic health conditions. This medical care may be in a variety of clinical settings. Assesses health status by obtaining relevant health and medical history. Performs a physical exam based upon the age and patient history as per the Supervisory Agreement in place with OSMB. Must be able to work with autonomy within Ohio law under direction of supervising physician. Identifies significant health and medical risk factors. Orders, interprets and evaluates laboratory test and other diagnostic studies to assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs. Develops a diagnosis by analyzing and synthesizing collected data. Develops a treatment plan along with the patient and significant others as directed and reviewed by physician. Performs diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification, law and Akron Children's Hospital privileges. May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through Ohio Board of Medicine and hospital policy. Develops patient education plan. Collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care. May serve as clinical preceptor for PA students. Other duties as assigned.

Provides medical care to patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic health conditions, including the delivery of acute care services. Practice with a variety of specialty-based populations including neonatal, pediatric, and adult. Practices in any setting in which patients require complex monitoring and therapies, high intensity medical intervention, or continuous vigilance within the range of high-acuity care. Participates in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a bi-annual basis to assure quality care and per ORC requirements. This review is completed via the Focused Professional Performance Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluation (OPPE) for Advanced Practice Providers as part of Joint Commission requirements.

Nonprofit: We are a small nonprofit with a team of 12. We have two providers at full staffed. We have a volunteer Pediatrician who dedicates her Thursdays to care for our patients.
Safety-net: Private practices in our area are almost obsolete. 92% of our families have Medicaid (3% private insurance and 5% on a sliding scale fee). This means more complicated patients and longer visits to help the patient and family handle their barriers to success/access. Because of the care we provide, you cannot meet a normal quota and our providers see on average 20 patients a day.
Community: We are the only pediatric community clinic in our region. Patients/Families come from 12 countries and 53 zip codes for our service in just one year. Generation-after-generation come to our clinic for care. Other clinics in our space are FQHCs and serve birth to death with Family Practice docs. We specialize in children! And, because of that do not hold that governmental designation of FQHC.

Outpatient
Practice emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems. Participates in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a bi-annual basis to assure quality care and per ORC requirements. • Identifies patient/family needs for discharge (including patient/family) education needs, equipment needs, further home care needs, transportation needs or referrals required.
• Writes prescriptions for patients within scope of practice.
• Communicates appropriately with the primary care physician.
• Selects and orders appropriate tests. (under guidance of physician)
• Writes orders in patient chart, cosigned by a physician as needed.
• Participates in emergency treatment and triages appropriately.
• Maintains confidentiality of all department and patient matters.
• Communicates with families providing written materials and videos when appropriate.
• Competently assists/performs treatments/procedures for patients on their service.

Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies Preferred. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Must have Supervision Agreement filed, current certificate to practice and certificate to prescribe (or eligible) by Ohio Board of Medicine. Must obtain credentialing as an active member of medical staff and appropriate medical staff privileges. Current Health Care Provider BLS training is required.
