Osceola County Sheriff's Office company history timeline

1887

Formed on May 12th, 1887 from portions of Orange County and Brevard County, Osceola County became Florida's 40th county.

1888

In fact, a team was created in 1888 and grew to more than 100 members just two years later.

1891

Records of Kissimmee’s earliest history were destroyed in a fire at City Hall on October 16, 1891.

1911

Incorporated in 1911, the city prospered by luring veterans with inexpensive city lots, nearby farmland, and a "climate with no extremes." The first 1,000 lots sold for $50 each and the price later increased to $100 per lot.

1937

In 1937, the Kissimmee Police Department expanded to three employees.

1964

He expanded the agency to eleven sworn officers and saw the budget increase to $100,000.00 in 1964.

1974

The large increase in population and police force was a direct result of Disney World opening in 1974.

1987

The Heritage Seal used by Osceola County was designed in 1987 by Barni McIntire, a local artist and long-time resident, as part of the County's centennial celebration.

1997

The Corrections Department was operated by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office until March 1, 1997, when operations were transferred to the Board of County Commissioners.
