    Position Title:Director - Clinical Medical Physics and DosimetryDepartment:OUHP Radiation TherapyJob Description: The Director of Clinical Medical Physics directs and coordinates the operations of the clinical medical physics group within CUMC's Department of Radiation Oncology by supervising and directing the day-to-day activities of physics and treatment planning personnel. The Director shall also support (1) the development and implementation of new treatment methods and technology; (2) academic activities of medical physics trainees and junior faculty; and (3) collaboration with teams providing oversight of the Department's radiation safety program. The Director also participates in the development of annual physics and associated technical budgets, faculty evaluation, recruitment, and long-term strategic planning. Performs, as needed, specified clinical physicist duties, including but not limited to chart checking, machine calibrations, and quality assurance. Responsible for the precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans and the safety of patients and treatment staff. The Director of Clinical Medical Physics shall report to the Department's Vice Chairperson for Physics. Responsibilities below are performed under the overall direction of the Vice Chairperson for Physics. Essential Responsibilities Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position. Collaborates with Hospital administration in the specification, selection, and acceptance of radiation-producing machines, accessories, and treatment planning equipment. Determines the requirements for, selects or participates in the selection of dosimetry and treatment planning equipment, including, but not limited to, measurement instruments to calibrate all treatment equipment and monitoring devices, treatment planning systems, water phantom systems with appropriate ionization chambers and diodes, film densitometry systems, etc. Maintains responsibility for the design and implementation of all aspects of the physics quality management program that involves the use of the external beam radiotherapy equipment, as well as the review and approval of the procedures followed by the radiation therapy staff. Provides oversight of and participates as needed in yearly quality assurance program, including annual and monthly linear accelerator, simulator, and CT calibrations and QA. Ensures equipment is maintained within performance criteria. Advises and consults with physicians to provide guidance and direction to physics, treatment planning, and therapy staff during patient planning and treatment. Ensures all required documentation relating to treatment plans, equipment, and compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies is maintained by the physics staff. Participates in all physics procedures as needed, including QA procedures, brachytherapy procedures, SRS procedures, etc. Consults with physicians regarding brachytherapy treatments, treatment set-ups, clinical problems as needed/requested, documents consultation in medical record. Ensures all regular weekly QA checks for all patients under treatment are performed. Directs and participates as needed in the acceptance and commissioning of new equipment, ensuring the completion of appropriate documentation. Clearly communicates expectations about job performance, goals, and assignments; promotes teamwork; motivates employees; inspires employees' trust; addresses and resolves staff conflicts; regularly and effectively provides employees with feedback regarding job performance; recognizes employee contributions and accomplishments; constructively counsels employees when performance is below standards. Ensures effective functioning of the department; coordinates faculty & applicable staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage. Participates in the development of goals for the medical physics and technical group performing under the umbrella of medical physics.
