Our Lady of the Lake University was founded as an all-girls academy in 1895 by the Sisters of the Congregation of Divine Providence, a religious order with roots in 18th century France that continues to sponsor the university today.

1912 - The first bachelor's degree was awarded to Sister Angelique Ayers, CDP.
In 1919, the curriculum was expanded to four years and the institution was admitted to membership in the Texas Association of Colleges.
1921 - Moye Hall opened.
Established in 1923 by the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady, the School of Nursing began in conjunction with the establishment of Our Lady of the Lake Sanitarium in the Capitol Lake area of downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
1923 - Our Lady of the Lake College became the first San Antonio institution of higher education to receive regional accreditation.
In 1927, it became the third Texas school to be approved by the American Association of Universities.
1942 - Coeducational graduate study began.
In 1960, in response to the changing health needs of the community and the prevailing nursing shortage, the School of Nursing was the first school in the South to revise its curriculum by shortening its program from three calendar years to 27 consecutive months.
1968 - Our Lady of the Lake served as host site for the historic United States Commission on Civil Rights Hearing on Mexican Americans in the Southwest
In 1975, the name of the institution was changed from Our Lady of the Lake College to Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio.
As part of its mission to provide education to those with limited access, the university introduced the Weekend College concept at the San Antonio campus in 1978.
OLLU began offering "weekend degree" programs at Lone Star College - North Harris in 1986.
In 1989, the process culminated with the decision of the Franciscan Sisters and the medical center administration to transition to a degree-granting institution of higher education.
In July of 1995, the College was officially renamed Our Lady of the Lake College.
Additional programs were established during the summer of 2000 to offer dynamic training opportunities including practical nursing and continuing education for health care professionals.
She began her presidency in 2002.
Another noteworthy point in the College’s history occurred in 2005, when SACSCOC granted approval for master’s level programs in nurse anesthesia, nursing and physician assistant studies, making available for area professionals a new level of academic achievement.
2007 - Saints Athletics begins with volleyball and men's soccer.
2008 - Athletics program adds women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's golf.
In 2008, the university began a partnership with school districts in the Rio Grande Valley that would eventually evolve into its satellite campus in La Feria, Texas.
2009 - Athletics program adds softball, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's cross-country.
2010 - The completely renovated and restored Main Building reopens.
The community quickly rallied to raise funds for reconstruction, and the project was completed in fall 2010.

2014 - Athletics program adds baseball and men's and women's track and field
Our Lady of the Lake College was renamed Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University in October of 2016.
2016 - Woolfolk School of Communication Sciences and Disorders was named recognizing a historic gift from the Woolfolk family.
2016 - OLLU-RGV campus moved into its new home in the La Feria Technology and Success Center.
2016 - The Veronica Salazar Media Center was named recognizing donors Veronica Salazar and her husband Ruben Escobedo.

2017 - Lake Elmendorf Park adjacent to the San Antonio campus reopens after $16 million in renovations.
2018 - New Lake View residence hall opens offering apartment-style housing on the San Antonio campus.
