Outpatient dietitian job description

Assesses and identifies the risks, needs and problems related to healthy eating and nutrition; develops plans to meet those needs. Works primarily with patients, employees/employers, and community. Facilitates behavioral change to prevent disease or restore health, for individuals and groups, through education and counseling, skill development, promoting attitudes conducive to weight management, eating a healthy diet.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (Required) OBDL - Ohio Board of Dietetics Licensure - Ohio Dietetics Board, OHLP - Ohio Limited Permit - Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, RD - Registered Dietician - Commission on Dietetic Registration
Field of Study: Dietetics or related field and up to one year of post degree course work approved by ADA (American Dietetic Association) and/or an internship and no previous Experience plus three to six months of time on the job. Work requires current license from Ohio Board of Dietetics and current Registered Dietitian registration (or registry eligible) from American Dietetic Association. Work requires the analytical skills necessary in order to solve technical, clinical, administrative, or managerial problems that require a professional level of knowledge in a specific discipline and/or design relatively complex plans, systems, and programs. Work requires the communication skills necessary to explain policies or procedures, relay patients needs to appropriate personnel, or otherwise communicate and work collaboratively with others in situations requiring sensitivity and tact. Work is not completely standardized. Assignments are often received in the form of results expected, due dates, and general procedures to follow.

Sodexo is seeking an Outpatient Registered Dietitian ( Part Time, 20 hrs/week) for the Lehigh Valley Health Network - Weight Management Center in Hazelton, PA . The RD in this role with provide one-on-one nutritional counseling to patients receiving bariatric surgery and medically managed weight loss. Additional hours may be available in other areas of the network.

Position will report to Clinical Nutrition Manager and ideal candidate will:

• be a Registered Dietitian with a strong interest in outpatient weight loss counseling (new dietitians welcome to apply);
• have licensure in the state of PA;
• become certified in obesity & weight management (CSOWM);
• facilitate group classes and one-on-one medical nutrition therapy;

Position Summary:

Provides general nutrition care for patients, residents, and the community in the delivery of our contractual agreement with the client. Functions as a nutrition resource to assigned patient care areas and foodservice staff to ensure the provision of safe, high quality care. Maintains professional and business practices to assure regulatory compliance and to uphold company mission, values, and commitments made in the Sodexo client contractual agreement. Contributes to financial and clinical outcomes through implementation of services.

Executes the Nutrition Care Process (assessment, nutrition diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation) in general clinical practice; is accountable for the provision of safe and reliable care and services and completion of documentation in accordance with individual and statutory scope, regulatory standards and facility policies, protocols and practice guidelines, including clinical privileges. - 50%

Provides evidence-based nutrition counseling and training to meet basic clinical needs, promote disease management, educate healthcare personnel, interns and students on nutrition care strategies and support foodservice staff competency; functions within established educational frameworks using resources as provided and initiates referrals as needed to elevate care, support continuation of nutrition care plans or enhance educational processes. - 20%

Participates in interdisciplinary activities to promote the nutrition care plan and serve as a resource on nutrition-related issues; collaborates and communicates with clinical and culinary departments in the development, implementation and promotion of operating standards, tools, resources and programs for general clinical practice and foodservice operations in accordance with Sodexo standards. - 10%

Participates in performance improvement (PI) activities with minimal supervision and demonstrates a drive for continuous improvement. - 10%

Continually improves performance and demonstrates professional growth by advancing nutrition-related skills and engaging in tailored continuing education to enhance knowledge, skills and judgment obtained in formal education. - 10%

Qualifications & Requirements:

Basic Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree with completion of required coursework and supervised practice as dictated by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) (Note: For those seeking registration after 2023, this must be a master's degree)

Credentials Requirement:

• Meets eligibility requirements for Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and will become registered within 120 days of hire. In some states and/or facilities the RD/RDN credentials is required at the time of hire
• Certification/licensure as required by state(s) of practice

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Bachelor's Degree with completion of Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD)
• Completion of ACEND-accredited supervised practical experience program
• Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
• Two (2) years' experience in outpatient nutrition services
• Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES)

Preferred:

• Master's Degree of Science in Nutrition
• Specialization in nutrition- Certified Specialist in Obesity and Weight Management (CSOWM)
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
