ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS: Performing a variety of tasks involving the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and grounds; resurfacing ice and maintaining ice surfacing equipment; securing park, playgrounds and facilities; maintaining playground equipment and related areas; assisting customers. Waters grass and plants as needed; removes snow from sidewalks; vacuums buildings. Sets-up and takes down rooms for activities and meetings; returns furniture and equipment to storage area after use; moves office furniture and building equipment. Maintains building; cleans restrooms and locker rooms; ensures buildings and playgrounds are clean and litter free. Monitors building and cleaning supplies; informs Building Managers of supply needs. Rakes and cleans playground surfaces; adds sand, gravel, and related playground material as required. Maintains baseball and soccer fields; paints foul lines and drag lines. Maintains playground equipment; performs limited carpentry and repair work; installs and maintains signs. Operates power tools and specialized landscaping and maintenance equipment. Opens and closes skating rink, playgrounds, tennis courts and swimming pool; sharpens ice skates; replaces skate laces. Ensures security of park, playgrounds, and related facilities. Operates ice resurfacing equipment; ensures ice is smooth for figure skating, hockey and public skating. Maintains temperature of ice and rink area; ensures compressors are operating properly. Assists customers; helps customers locate locker rooms; responds to customers questions on ice rink policies, schedules, hours of operation, etc. Performs related tasks as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES General knowledge of ice resurfacing and maintenance practices and procedures; general knowledge of practices and procedures involved in the maintenance of buildings, playgrounds, and parks; general knowledge in the use of common hand and power tools; general knowledge of the safe operation and preventive maintenance of common automotive and mechanical equipment; ability to read and communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to perform medium and heavy physical work; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with associates and the general public. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings and playgrounds, and in the use of related equipment.
