Why should you be interested?
A wholesale industrial supply company is looking for an Outside Sales Representative for their Seattle branch. This role is focused on developing and expanding a defined sales territory for an HVAC-related product and services provider. The position emphasizes both new business acquisition and nurturing existing accounts, with the long-term vision of shifting the territory from primarily hunting to primarily farming. The Seattle branch is newly established, and the incoming hire will play a key role in building market presence, winning business from well-established competitors, and helping the team gain traction in a competitive region. The organization is committed to filling the position by December, with an ideal start date of January 3rd. Passive candidates who are employed and curious to hear are more than welcome to have a “no-commitment” conversation with our Recruiting team about why this could be an exciting career opportunity.
Location: Greater Seattle territory. Employees will occasionally report to the Seattle office but their time will largely be spent in the field meeting with customers in the Greater Puget Sound area.
Compensation & Benefits
Initial base salary range: $125,000 - $150,000, with total first-year earnings capped around $175,000.
Base pay gradually adjusts down after the first year as commission rates increase.
Long-term plan transitions the role to full commission, so comfort with variable compensation is essential.
Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement plan with match, paid holidays, PTO, and birthday PTO.
What You'll Do
Grow revenue and market share within a defined territory, focusing on both residential and commercial mechanical contractors.
Proactively pursue new business opportunities through field visits, cold calls, in-person meetings, and relationship-based selling.
Manage existing accounts, maintaining strong service levels and flipping the territory toward a more account-management-focused model over time (initially ~80% hunting / 20% farming).
Provide customers with updated pricing, product information, and promotional materials.
Maintain accurate records of customer activity, opportunities, and competitive insights.
Analyze customer purchasing trends and progress toward sales goals.
Identify competitive threats and opportunities to win business previously held by other suppliers.
Represent the branch professionally during on-site visits, meetings, and follow-ups.
Participate in phone screens, in-person interviews, and team meetings as needed during the hiring and onboarding process.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Industry experience is strongly preferred, especially backgrounds tied to HVAC or related mechanical/service environments.
Candidates with 10-15 years of experience tend to thrive, though all levels will be considered.
Experience selling into mechanical contractors-especially those serving residential or commercial sectors-is advantageous.
Strong communication skills with the ability to listen, consult, and solve customer problems.
Goal-oriented, self-driven, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, relationship-based sales environment.
Organized, grounded, and dependable individuals often excel here-people with stability, personal responsibilities, or strong self-management habits tend to perform well.
Comfortable with field-based work, face-to-face interactions, and consistent customer outreach.
Open to eventually transitioning to a 100% commission compensation model.
