Ovako Group company history timeline

2005

In May 2005, Ovako was established by merging Fundia, Ovako Steel and Imatra Steel.

2006

In 2006 the next major investment decision was taken.

2007

A 1200 mm drawing machine with nine blocks was put into operation in spring 2007.

In 2007 the company celebrates its 100th anniversary.

2010

In September 2010 the Jersey-based venture capital company TRITON became the owner of Ovako.

Pampus Stahlbeteiligungs was owned by Werner Pampus and his family.In September 2010, Ovako was acquired by investment firm Triton.

2012

In 2012 the steelworks in Koverhar and the rolling mill in Dalsbruk went into bankruptcy, as did Homberg Holdings.

2017

In June 2017 Hjulsbro’s biggest ever investment was opened: a new big drawing machine, a big 7-wire strand machine and an extruder line that gave Hjulsbro a new product – HDPE-coated strand.

2018

In June 2018, Nippon Steel Corporation, a global market leader in steel production with world-leading technology and production capacity, acquired Ovako.

2019

In March 2019, Sanyo Special Steel, a global market and technology leader in high-quality special steel, and a member of Nippon Steel Corporation group, a leading steel producer in the world, acquired Ovako.
