The Gurney Van Driver will operate a gurney van equipped to provide nonemergency transport of mobility- impaired individuals to and from hospitals, convalescent facilities, private homes, dialysis units, doctor's offices, rehabilitation centers, etc. in a safe and timely manner. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Picks up patients at home or other facility. Provides the assistance required to safely board patients and caregivers. • Operates Stryker gurney as needed for safe and comfortable patient transportation. • On arrival at medical facility, assists patients in exiting the van and reaching the proper offices or treatment areas. • Checks the van to ensure that no personal items are left behind. • Provides first-aid or CPR if required during patient transport. Immediately notifies emergency staff and dispatcher if skilled assistance is required. • Completes reports at the end of a shift. • Immediately reports traffic accidents to dispatcher, requesting police or ambulance service as needed. Assists injured persons from first-aid kit until these services arrive. POSITION SUMMARY Our Driver will ensure the safe transportation of our residents to and from various destinations, such as appointments or activity group outings, assisting them with safe onboarding and offboarding as necessary. The ideal candidate is friendly, patient, and committed to providing excellent service to seniors while ensuring a high level of safety and professionalism. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide safe, reliable, courteous, and efficient transportation service for the residents to and from various human service locations, work sites, educational institutions, medical facilities, grocery stores, drug stores, and others. Assist residents in and out of the vehicle, utilizing the wheelchair lift/stairs as needed; open and close doors; and load/unload walkers and wheelchairs as needed. Ensure resident safety and satisfaction are priorities, and account for the presence of all residents when leaving or returning to the community. Prepare the van/bus for operation and coordinate necessary vehicle maintenance. May be responsible for ensuring all vehicle license plates, inspection tags, and insurance cards are current and displayed properly per local and state policy. Follow and understand the rules of the road and transportation safety procedures. Maintain a current driving license per state regulations to perform transportation services. Assist in the resident programs as needed, including resident activities and special events. Build positive relationships with residents, engaging in friendly conversation and providing support as needed during trips. Requirements CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS Education and licenses: High School Diploma or equivalent. A valid state driver's license. Must have a CDL Passenger endorsement (per state regulations) Experience, Competencies, and Skills: At least three (3) years of driving experience and a clean driving record. At least one (1) year of previous experience driving a passenger vehicle, preferably in a healthcare or senior living setting. Experience in operating large vehicles or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Excellent customer service skills and a professional, friendly, and patient demeanor.
