The Parks & Recreation Department currently has an opportunity for a Park MaintenanceWorker III. The position will assume primary responsibility for the maintenance of assigned park areas; perform a variety of semiskilled and skilled work in the maintenance of park grounds, equipment, buildings, and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
Perform semi-skilled and skilled construction, maintenance, and repair of park structures and accessories using the techniques of carpentry, plumbing, and cement work.
Assign work to maintenanceworkers; assist in the training and coaching of less experienced personnel; provide input related to the performance of assigned maintenance crew.
Ensure maintenance work is performed according to work procedures and standards established by the Park Maintenance Department.
Water, mow, weed, trim, renovate, and fertilize grass.
Rake leaves, spray weeds, clean walks, fields, courts, and other facilities.
Mix concrete, prepare forms, and pour foundations.
Erect block walls and roof framings.
Install plumbing fixtures in park restrooms.
Paint and plaster surfaces as required.
Operate equipment and vehicles as required and assist in routine maintenance on such equipment.
Perform other building maintenance and repair tasks.
Qualifications

The Inspector I is the entry level class in the inspection series. Positions in the class perform the more routine inspections as incumbents develop inspection techniques, procedures, and record keeping practices. Advancement to the Inspector II class is contingent upon acquiring the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform journey-level inspection effectively.
The Inspector II will inspect routine though complex maintenance and construction projects to ensure quality control and compliance with approved plans, specifications, standards, or maintenance contract provisions. Prior construction inspection or advanced park or landscape maintenance experience is required. The Inspector II may act as resident inspector on major projects, and will work independently on assignments.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct routine through complex inspections of private and public construction projects, parks, facilities and trails development and landscape, inspecting materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications or maintenance contract provisions, inspect conditions prior to the start of construction or landscaping, during construction or landscaping, and upon completion.
As assigned, act as lead project inspector and assist in administration of contracts for construction and landscape maintenance projects, change order and amendments; negotiate and submit recommended change orders; review, project and prepare payment tracking records.
Read and interpret plans and specifications and recommend modifications when needed.
Note contract deficiencies and issue compliance deficiency notices to contractors requiring modifications to work in progress.

Under immediate and general supervision of the Streets Operation Supervisor, the Public Works MaintenanceWorker I/II performs a variety of semi-skilled construction, maintenance, modification and repair activities in the Streets division and performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Public Works MaintenanceWorker I (salary range M38: $53,474.23 - $67,739.56 annually) is the entry-level into the Public Works maintenance class series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents with basic maintenance experience learn maintenance pertaining to the services provided by the Public Works Department, use of tools and equipment and a wide variety of practices and procedures. As experience and competence is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence. This class is flexibly-staffed with Public Works MaintenanceWorker II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining the skill and experience which meet the qualifications for and demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher level class, at the discretion of the department.
Public Works MaintenanceWorker II (salary range M44: $61,921.13 - $78,439.83 annually) is the experienced-level class in this series and incumbents are capable of performing a wide variety of work to ensure that the Public Works services and City infrastructure are maintained in a safe and effective working condition. Responsibilities include performing work in all operational and maintenance areas, depending upon the immediate needs of the City and the assigned department. THE POSITION
Under general supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled heavy manual work, alone or as a member of a crew, in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water systems, wastewater systems, storm drains, streets, graffiti abatement or related public works and utility functions.

Description
This is a seasonal, part-time position for the Parks & Grounds division.
Under the general supervision of a Public Works Streets Supervisor or Parks & Grounds Supervisor, and direction of a Maintenance II lead, incumbents in this classification assist with the cleanup and maintenance of City parks, streets, and satellite facilities including buildings, equipment, bus stops, parking lots, trails, flora and landscapes; and perform related work as required.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:
* Emptying garbage cans.
* Picking up litter and other illegal dumping.
* Raking and spreading material including, but not limited to, asphalt, mulch, gravel, and soil.

The essential duties require: the repetitive use of feet and hands to operate equipment and tools; the ability to lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; frequent handling of dirt, debris, soil, and litter; verbal exchange of ideas and information; hearing in order to receive verbal information and instruction; seeing with a good field of vision sufficient to operate equipment safely; the ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, and walk; and, finger dexterity and hand strength to operate and grasp tools and equipment.

Semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of craft areas may be assigned on a training or relief basis. MaintenanceWorker II
This is the journey or experienced level class in this series in which workers perform maintenance and repair assignments in a variety of crafts, including, but not limited to, carpentry, plumbing, interior and exterior painting, basic electrical, tile repair, cement finishing, appliance repair and grounds maintenance. Work is normally performed independently and requires the ability to determine the nature of the work to be performed and the materials and supplies required.

Working Conditions
Position located at 2122 N. Windsor Ave., Altadena Ca 91001, Los Angeles County.

During the performance of duties, incumbent may be subject to a wide range of inclement weather conditions to include temperatures between 120 and -15 degrees, strong winds, rain, sleet, and snow. During the winter months the workweek is normally 5/8-hour days. The scheduling at the discretion of the Region Management. Employee may be scheduled to work the night shift to meet operational needs with proper advance notice as per the Bargaining Unit 12, Memorandum of Understanding. May be requested to work scheduled and/or emergency overtime due to storms, callback, special work projects, or to meet operational needs. Overtime will be assigned per the Bargaining Unit 12, Memorandum of Understanding.
Personal safety requirements include but are not limited to (as per Injury and Illness Prevention Program):
* Appropriate footwear, in good and sturdy condition, must be worn.
* Either long or short-sleeved shirts provided by Caltrans, or a safety vest is to be worn over non-safety shirts or coats.
* Long pants. No shorts or cutoffs.
* Provided safety gear; hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection devices, face shields, gloves, respirators, chaps, or other safety gear must be worn when required by the Department, including hazmat conditions and/or incidents when required.

Position:Grounds MaintenanceWorker Salary Range: $4,304.00 - $5,154.00 per month. As part of the State's efforts to address ongoing budget shortfalls, from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027, the Personal Leave Program 2025 [PLP] will be in effect. This consists of a 3% pay reduction in base monthly salary in exchange for an accrual of 5 hours of PLP leave per month. The salary range included in the job advertisement does not reflect the reduction in pay.
