What You Will DoThe Hyperbaric Support Tech is responsible for performing administrative, technical, and organizational duties to ensure excellent and efficient practices related to patient care, quality, and consistency of care, HIPPA compliance, and relations with patients.Required Qualifications

+ H.S. Diploma or Equivalent

+ 1 Year experience in direct patient care.

+ Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) California Certification - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians -REQUIRED

+ AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

Essential Functions

+ Database and record management Patient care documentation completed per department guidelines of care and policy and procedure.Regulatory logs and chamber records maintained according to guidelines.Patient database reflects accurate information.Confidential information handled discretely in accordance with department policy/procedure.Accurately obtain and document pre-treatment patient assessment, which will include vital signs, fingerstick glucose, as indicated, and pre-treatment questions, and submit to provider for review and approval or disapproval, prior to the start of daily HBOT.Accurately obtain and document post-treatment patient assessment, which will include vital signs, fingerstick glucose, as indicated, and submit to provider for review and approval or disapproval, for discharge after daily HBOT.Help facilitate bookings and scheduling, answer phones and perform light administrative work.

+ Equipment operation Patients treated according to treatment protocols.Sets up and operates all equipment used in chamber.Demonstrates ongoing knowledge of emergency procedures related to chamber operations.Demonstrates ongoing knowledge of physiological effects of hyperbarics.

+ Patient care Adheres to aseptic technique and universal precautions.Consults with other departments as appropriate for an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.Transports, transfers, and positions patients safely.Educate and orient patients about the delivery of hyperbaric medicine oxygen treatments (HBOT).Provide excellent customer service to patients, and their accompanying family members and/or caregivers.Provides pre and post procedure education and reassurance about the delivery of hyperbaric medicine oxygen treatments (HBOT): What the procedure is, how long it is going to take, physician involved, positioning, instructions related to procedure, patient satisfaction form, etc.Interacts and communicates in a manner to reflect an understanding of the patient's age, culture, state of health, level of comprehension.Communicates and interacts with the patient's family in a way that is perceived positive and supportive while maintaining patient confidentiality.

+ Patient safety Performs daily pre and post dive observation of patient and reports patient status, observed changes and responses to RN.Attends to patient during compression, at treatment depth and decompression by continuously observing patients and attending to needs.

The Hyperbaric Technician, under the general supervision of the Hyperbaric Physician/Provider and the direct supervision of the Department Manager/Director, will assume responsibility for the safe and effective operation of the compression chamber system and supporting components. All therapeutic and diagnostic modalities will be ordered by the Hyperbaric Physician/Provider.

TECHNICAL STANDARDS

Essential Functions: Defined as duties specific to the job, that, if removed, would change the entire purpose of the job; to include the Essential Physical Demands and Essential Working Conditions of this position.

Core Essential Functions:

* Regular, consistent, on-site, and timely attendance.
* Manages Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy schedule.
* Ensures a logical and systematic approach is utilized in scheduling patients to support optimal operations and fiscal responsibility.
* Attempts to meet the patients scheduling needs when special circumstances arise.
* Ensures the required physician/provider coverage is arranged to support the scheduled therapy.
* Edits EMR as needed to correctly represent HBO schedule, visit type, and physician.
* Contacts patients as needed to relay any delays or arrange for special needs.

* Serves as the Center Safety Officer.
* Stays educated in current safety practices within the field of hyperbaric medicine.
* Assists the HBO Coordinator in annual education and competencies to the wound center staff surrounding Emergency Ascent procedures.

* Supervises patients undergoing HBOT in the wound center.
* Demonstrates a working knowledge of hospital policy and procedures surrounding HBOT.
* Utilizes the safe and appropriate practices while administering hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
* Performs maintenance activities of the HBOT chambers and associated equipment as directed.
* Completes daily charges as well as documentation of care provided in the medical record.
* Educates the patients in the goals of hyperbaric therapy.
* Interacts appropriately with wound center staff and physicians to optimize communication directed towards patient care.
* Vital Signs will be monitored and documented including BP, and glucose.

* Record Keeping
* Maintain a log of all patients receiving HBOT.
* Maintain a log depicting all potential patients for HBOT within the wound center.
* Upload wound photos into the EMR as directed.
* Assist manager with various record keeping logs related to quality initiatives or center operations as directed.
* Obtains insurance authorizations for the use of biological skin substitutes, advanced radiology studies, and HBOT as directed.

* Other duties
* Willingly accepts duties assigned by Director/Manager that enhance center operations and team approach.
* Will assist in clinic area as time permits.
* Performs TCOM as needed.
* Willingly participates in marketing initiatives that support the center as well as the health system.

Marginal Functions: Defined as duties that are not essential in nature and do not take a considerable amount of time to complete (less than 10%).

* Patient food items will be ordered and inventory checked routinely.
* Needed supplies will be maintained to ensure proper operation of chambers
* Compressed air cylinders will be maintained to facilitate air breaks during HBOT.
* Performs other duties as required.

Required Skills and Knowledge: Minimum level of education, skills and abilities necessary in performing the job.

Education:

* Completion of post-secondary course work in either Respiratory Care, EMS or Nursing. Completion of training in an Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) approved training course or successful completion of training course within 3 months of date of hire.

Certification / Licensure / Regulation:

* Current licensure to practice in the State of Pennsylvania
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
* Current ACLS or completion within 2 months of hire/transfer into department
* Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system

Prior Experience:

* One-year clinical experience in a health related environment
