Kenworth Truck Company is the manufacturer of The World's Best heavy and medium duty trucks. Job Functions / Responsibilities
· Verify that welding procedures are covered by WPS's (welding procedure specifications).
· Make certain that the welding and thermal cutting equipment is appropriate and in good operational condition to attain the prescribed results.
· Make certain that welding procedures are qualified or pre-qualified in accordance with applicable AWS codes.
· Ensure that welders are qualified in accordance with Kenworth specification R026-198-132 Welder Qualification Testing.
· Perform visual inspections of welds (R026-198-59 sections 4.4, 4.5, and 5.0 and 756C-002).
· Ensure that records are maintained that pertain to the qualification of welders, weld equipment, inspectors, and weld procedures; corrective action activities; and other such documentation as may be required.
· Responsible for inspection of incoming lots of manufactured or purchased parts.
· Determines acceptance or rejection status of inspected parts based on engineering.
specifications, standards, and tolerances.
· Prepares and processes inspection acceptance or rejection paperwork, updating records and computer files as directed.
· Performs sort operations necessary to quarantine defective material already in the plant and/or installed on trucks on site.
· Communicates verbally and in writing with the Materials Dept, Production, and Suppliers regarding quality problems and part rejections.
· Contacts suppliers by phone and e-mail to obtain authorization to scrap or return rejected material.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
· Must be a Certified Weld Inspector with proven successful experience and knowledge of all welding techniques, procedures, and standards.
· Must understand and be able to accurately use traditional manual inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gauge, hardness testers, etc).
· Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
· Must have basic computer literacy (e-mail, windows operating system, word processors, etc).
· Must be able to read and interpret part drawings in a variety of design formats (hand drawings, CADAM)
· Must have a basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
· Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
· Must be able to effectively negotiate/assign defective material responsibility with vendors, production, etc. as appropriate.
Desirable Qualifications:
Note: These are qualifications required to be fully proficient in this job but may not be found within the available applicants. Applicant should display the aptitudes necessary to pick these skills up with a reasonable amount of training. It is desirable for an applicant to already possess these skills.
· Ability to access the following on Paccar's computer network: Kenworth Specs, Paccar Specs, Tech. Center Lab Reports, EDC, and the Parts Tracking System.
· A comprehensive understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (able to interpret profile, flatness, angularity, MMC, multiple datum schemes, composite tolerances, etc.)
· Formal training /education in quality tools and/or related technical fields. Quality tools to include: Six Sigma methodology, root cause analysis techniques, capability studies, corrective action methods, and various inspection techniques.
· Certification by the American Society for Quality.

Purpose
As a Weld Engineer, you will drive the development and qualification of innovative weld joints to enable automated, fixtureless assembly of multi-component designs.
