Purpose of the Position
As part of Sea-Bird's evolving Supply Chain organization, the Material Handler I ensures materials are received, processed, and put away accurately and efficiently. This role supports our operations by coordinating inventory control and receiving activities, handling materials safely, maintaining inventory accuracy, and helping the team meet on-time delivery and quality goals.

Required to open and close boxes, cartons, bags and other containers to inspect and count contents. Working Conditions: Material handling work is done inside and outside (wood frame, Quonset, and concrete warehouses). The incumbent may work inside in areas that are hot, cold, damp, rainy weather, drafty or poorly lighted and may be dirty, dusty and greasy. Incumbent may work in bad weather in outside areas such as open docks and storage yards. The material handler is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises and broken bones; falls from ladders; or injury from forklift trucks overturning or other equipment. Incumbent may be required to handle hazardous and radioactive material. Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons.

+ Safely handle, package, and store materials-including fragile and sensitive instruments-to prevent damage.
+ Support compliance with all local, national, and international regulations, including export control and EHS standards.

**Basic Requirements**
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ 2+ years of experience in shipping, receiving, or material handling.
+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
+ Basic computer skills and familiarity with shipping or warehouse management software.
+ Understanding of proper PPE use and safe handling practices.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Familiarity with packaging fragile or sensitive equipment.
+ Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).
+ Knowledge of shipping Dangerous Goods regulations.
+ Familiarity with Lean or continuous improvement principles.
+ Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
+ Experience coordinating domestic and international shipments through UPS, FedEx, DHL, or freight forwarders.
+ Proven ability to follow and help refine standard work processes.
+ Knowledge of import/export compliance or hazardous materials (e.g., lithium batteries) is a plus.
**Physical Requirements**
+ Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. unassisted and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
+ Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
+ Good visual acuity and manual dexterity for handling small components.
+ Must be able to safely operate material handling equipment and wear required PPE, including steel-toe shoes.
**Work Environment**
+ Work performed in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with occasional exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, and environmental factors such as dust, fumes, and temperature variation.
+ Proper PPE (eye protection, gloves, steel-toe shoes, etc.) required in all work areas.
