Previous material handling experience, forklift certification (reach truck), and mechanical aptitude/experience is highly preferred. Job experience in an industrial production environment with the related safety training is preferred. Able to read and understand production schedule, and accept verbal direction to successfully complete procedures and assigned tasks. Capable of performing mathematical calculations, properly using tape measures and micrometers, and performing material inspection procedures. Flexibility in work assignments and priorities is required to address the dynamic needs of our customers and shifts in production requirements. Good verbal and written communication skills required, and proven experience with effective teams and continuous improvement methods strongly preferred. Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and ensure proper handling of items up to 75 pounds. Must travel as required; overnight travel may be required. Responsibilities: * Stages product on pallets, shrink wraps to prevent loss, and loads pallets on trucks * Inspects trailers for suitability before loading * Ensures correct parts are placed on the correct truck - packs the right parts for delivery to the right customers with accuracy and speed, maps out the organization of loading customer orders from skids to trucks * Operates pallet jack or forklift as needed * Maintains the integrity of products through proper handling and storage * Keeps work area clean to avoid potential accidents and to allow for rapid loading * Pulls stock orders until time to load trucks as needed * Assists with processing other DC shuttles * Works in a safe manner following all safety procedures, rules and regulations * Performs all other duties as assigned by management Experience, Education, and Abilities: * High School Diploma or 6 months of equivalent work experience required * Forklift certified preferred * Regular, reliable, predictable attendance * Able to speak clearly and listen attentively * Capable of recognizing and distinguishing letters and numbers (both visually and aurally) and remembering their sequence * Should have basic computer APGJCe skills * Capable of lifting and moving merchandise of up to 60 lbs. * Able to push/pull up to 300 lbs. using mechanical aids, such as hand trucks, barrel dollies, hydraulic lifts, etc. * Able to bend or stoop to floor-level shelves and be able to reach shelves (eight feet) with use of stool or ladder when necessary * Must be able to get in and out of the back of truck with parts while using a ramp when necessary * Able to stand and walk for entire work shift Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, hazardous materials, outside weather conditions of extreme heat and cold.     Associates in the Material Handler position are responsible for keeping the printing presses, laminators, slitters and converting machines stocked with materials so they can produce quality flexible packaging materials on time in accordance with specific work instructions and applicable safety and quality assurance procedures. In the event of absence, these job responsibilities will be covered by employees in the “Inventory Specialist” or another employee in, “Material Handler” positions. Responsibilities and Duties: This job description and performance standard document has been prepared as a guide to ensure better communication and understanding. All responsibilities, however, have not been included, nor could they be. Your Supervisor/Manager may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this description. Likewise, this description will be revised when required to meet current business needs. Checks all tools and equipment at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure good housekeeping is maintained, documents housekeeping as required, and contacts Maintenance whenever equipment is not running properly. Completes preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment as assigned. Assumes “ownership” of the warehouse area by removing clutter, properly labeling and moving materials in a timely manner, completing daily house-keeping activities, and appropriate adjustments are completed to guarantee material inventory accuracy. Maintains the “Five Second Rule” whereby anyone walking through the warehouse can tell in 5 seconds or less whether everything is in its proper place. As an ongoing goal, the area should always be “inspection-ready”. Performs daily forklift inspection and documents findings on the “Daily Forklift Inspection Checklist”. Carefully operates forklifts and other equipment in a safe manner to assure safety for everyone and avoid damage to materials, equipment and building assets. Any “near miss” or actual damage must be reported immediately to the Shift Leader or MMLM. Works proactively and with a sense of urgency to ensure that all machines within the facility are kept stocked with materials in support of the production schedule as well as properly returning and documenting materials to the warehouse when required. Minimizing machine down time due to lack of materials is a key goal of this position. Labels all materials and accurately. Accounts for and documents all material movements to maintain our inventory and location accuracy. Wraps, bands, labels, and secures materials to pallets for safe movement of materials. Make sure all material (boxes, zippers, film, cores) are pulled in FIFO (first in first out). Assists with monthly physical inventory both on and offsite locations. Ensures that all responsibilities and functions performed are in accordance with company and quality procedures as set forth in the Personnel Handbook and the Quality Manual. Participates in quality programs and stays updated on changes to the Quality Manual. Supports the company emphasis on teamwork and cooperation to achieve our goals by performing other duties as assigned including working in other departments from time to time and helping with periodic cleanup issues. Generates improvement ideas and embraces improvement projects to better the business. Participates in 6S initiatives and Kaizen events as required. Skills and Qualifications: Detail-orientation required for completing required paperwork and information system's inputs with a high degree of accuracy. Previous material handling experience, forklift certification (reach truck), and mechanical aptitude/experience is highly preferred. Job experience in an industrial production environment with the related safety training is preferred. Able to read and understand production schedule, and accept verbal direction to successfully complete procedures and assigned tasks. Capable of performing mathematical calculations, properly using tape measures and micrometers, and performing material inspection procedures. Flexibility in work assignments and priorities is required to address the dynamic needs of our customers and shifts in production requirements. Good verbal and written communication skills required, and proven experience with effective teams and continuous improvement methods strongly preferred. Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and ensure proper handling of items up to 75 pounds. Must travel as required; overnight travel may be required. Must pass company forklift certification within reasonable time period. Must be capable of standing for the duration of a work shift less breaks and lunch.
