Purpose Statement
The Material Handler will coordinate the flow of raw materials, work in progress, and finished product effectively and accurately.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MATERIAL HANDLER - SOLAR INSTALLER
As an entry-level Material Handler - Solar Installer, you get to work out in the fresh air and enjoy the weather while skillfully installing solar panels in commercial locations. You get your blood pumping and put your muscles to good use as you set up job sites, move ladders around, and carry solar panels up to rooftops. Attentive to detail, you skillfully assemble racking before installing the panels and blocking diodes.

SUMMARY

Sort, price and grade newly arrived goods.
Convey materials to and/or from storage or work areas to designated areas using hand truck, carts, pallet jack or straddle stacker.
May use equipment to handle, move and/or dispose of materials, i.e. trash compactor, tipping equipment.
Stock shelves, counters and tables.
Count, weigh and/or record number of units of material moved or handled and prepare inventory of stock, as required.
Assist in preparation of all shipping documentation for materials being shipped from premises. Ensure contents of crates are clearly labeled. Install strapping, bracing or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit, when loading Goodwill trucks for pick-up/delivery. Install load bars as required.
Lift heavy objects by hand and maintain clean work area, machines and/or equipment.
Assist at designated retail outlets to sort, move or set up fixtures, move donated goods and other related duties as assigned.
Remove snow/ice from sidewalks and surrounding grounds to ensure a safe environment for staff, customers, visitors and clients at any Agency location, as assigned.
Perform other related essential duties as required or assigned by supervisor.

Ensure that customer drop-off and donation center is kept clean, organized and free of safety hazards along with adjacent production and processing areas.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)** preferred, not required; and one to three months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
** Students under the age of 18 years still enrolled in High School may be hired to fill part-time positions but may not operate the compactor, floor cleaning machine, straddle stacker or any other hazardous equipment and must abide by the CT DOL regulations regarding hours of work for minors in the workplace.

Job Summary:
The Material Handler- 2nd Shift (3 p.m.-11:30 p.m.) is responsible for the accurate and timely movement, staging, and replenishment of raw materials, finished goods, and production supplies throughout the facility. This role ensures that all materials are handled safely and efficiently to support production flow and maintain inventory accuracy.
Pay: $17.57/hr- $23.58/hr plus 7% shift differential
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Material Movement & Inventory Support
Deliver raw materials, resins, packaging, and components to production areas per job requirements.
Remove completed product from molding and assembly areas and transport to designated staging or storage locations.
Replenish work cells and machines with appropriate materials, keeping downtime to a minimum.
Accurately record material transactions using ERP or inventory systems (e.g., scanning, labeling, and issuing materials).
Preparation & Staging
Assist in the setup of materials at molding machines, including proper handling of resins and drying equipment.
Prepare and stage materials for upcoming production runs according to the schedule and traveler specifications.
Ensure all materials are properly labeled and traceable in accordance with quality and safety standards.
Shipping & Receiving Support
Support receiving functions including unloading deliveries, inspecting shipments, and verifying quantities.
Transport received goods to proper storage areas or production points.
Assist in packaging and loading finished goods for shipment when needed.
Equipment & Safety
Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
Perform daily equipment checks and report maintenance or safety concerns.
Follow all EH&S policies, including proper PPE use, hazardous material handling, and spill response protocols.
Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in plastics manufacturing or related field is a plus.
Prior experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment preferred.
Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Attention to detail and precision in executing tasks.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Basic computer or scanner experience with inventory systems (e.g., ERP software).
Ability to understand and follow English work instructions, both verbal and written.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and move around the production floor for extended periods.
Capable of lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling small tools, machine components, and molds.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Comfortable wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection.
Occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching to access equipment and perform maintenance tasks.
Good vision and color perception for inspecting parts and identifying any defects or abnormalities.
Ability to work in temperature-controlled environments and withstand exposure to noise levels associated with manufacturing machinery.
Ability to receive, comprehend and utilize required training from OSHA and Company including but not limited to the following:
