Summary
This position supports RDI productivity and on-time delivery goals by pulling orders from inventory, delivering production materials and supplies and staging finished product. Responsibilities include maintaining inventory accuracy and the movement of material into and out of the warehouse. This position reports to the Warehouse Supervisor and often has direct interaction with Production Manager, Supervisors and Techs, as well as the Supply Chain Coordinator and Quality Assurance.
Hours are Monday through Friday 11:00AM to 7:15PM. Flexible hours are not available.
Essential Functions
* Moves about the work area/building continually, moving materials throughout the production floor. Continuous reaching, stooping, bending, twisting to reach and position materials.
* Maintains inventory by identifying, labeling and placing materials and supplies in stock; recording location of inventory, focusing on timeliness and accuracy.
* Referring to production orders, locating materials and supplies, accurately pulling inventory from assigned bin locations to support pick/pack operations numerous times per workday.
* Maintains an awareness of schedules and deadlines, adapts to changing work priorities throughout the shift.
* Ability to operate a forklift in tight spaces to retrieve stored items and stack empty pallets.
* Perform weigh counts for WIP returns to inventory.
* Maintain warehouse and material handling equipment in a clean and safe condition. This includes pre-use inspection and identifying safety risks, removing empty crates and boxes, packing materials, and other debris from warehouse floor. Keeps shelves, pallet area neat, complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
* Consistently uses strength, dexterity, flexibility balance and good body mechanics when performing essential functions. Follows appropriate safety policies and procedures of RDI as well as community and regulatory instruction.

A Brief Summary of This Position

Essential Functions

Operate small hand tools - tape measures, saws, drills, riveters, and banders equipment.

Physical Effort
Without the help of the forklift, the Material Handler may have to lift, push and carry material but this represents less than 5% of the shift. Stooping, bending and squatting are required for most physical lifting, pushing and pulling. The Material Handler may be required to push, pull or lift up to 50lbs., but most of the physical lifting and moving is completed with the use of the forklift. The employee must be able to move about the warehouse or yard area with and without the forklift (close to 10% of the movements on the shift needs to be done without the use of the forklift). The rest of the shift is spent working in a sitting position from inside of a forklift, side loader, shag truck or straddle truck.

Work Schedule:
The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management, and, while generally as shown below, may be changed (increased or decreased) by management with overtime as required. Overtime may be scheduled daily and can only be worked as approved by the supervisor.
Hours of Work: First shift, 7:00 AM- 3:30 PM

Basic Function:
Receives and unpacks materials and supplies and moves them to proper storage area(s). Kits material, issues material, and delivers material to work in process work centers. Compiles warehouse records and insures the accuracy and integrity of all warehouse material and locations. Performs cycle counting of inventory and routine duties requiring a thorough knowledge of IFS System, Purchasing, Receiving, Processing, Bills of Material and Shop Scheduling policies and procedures. Pulls and prepares parts for packaging as called upon.
Essential Duties:

Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
Labels all materials with the proper part number to identify accurately and efficiently.

Assigns locations for material being received.
Pulls materials for pick lists generated by IFS system for customer orders and shop orders.
Maintains log of any damaged/discrepant material awaiting disposition.
Examines stock to verify visual conformance to specifications.
Puts away received parts; stores articles in bins, on floor or on shelves according to identifying information such as style, size, or type of material.

Prepares periodic, special, or perpetual inventory of stock.
Assist to follow up and trace lost, misplaced, or misdirected material.
Will distribute stock to work centers, keeping records of material transferred/used.
May determine methods of storage, identification, and stock location, considering temperature, humidity, height and weight limits, turnover, flood loading capacities and required space.
Responsible to keep warehouse, tool storage and outside storage areas in an organized and orderly condition.
Performs cycle count on assigned parts, records accuracy information, investigates reasons for discrepancies, interprets data, and prepares reports using several sources of data as needed.
Makes recommendations for corrective action based on the results of discrepant part investigation.
Maintains cycle count records as required and assigned.
Generates requisitions for all expense items related to the facilities operation when applicable.
Receives all expense items for the manufacturing floor and issues to proper staging area per department as needed.
Able to complete certified training and to operate material handling equipment, forklifts, two-wheeler, overhead cranes etc.
Must know, understand, and abide by all safety rules.
Effective in ERP, Excel, Word Document, and Outlook knowledge.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements:
Work requires a few simple, but rapid, hand operations; work requires some lifting and pushing/pulling of material as required to count, sort, reconcile, prepare, put away or ship parts; average weight 10 pounds, parts/boxes of materials range from >1 pound up to 65 pounds. Must be able to lift up to 65 lbs. 40” high and up to 50 lbs. overhead on a regular basis. The Material Handler - Layer Picker is an essential part of our team. The Layer Picker is a sit-down forklift with a swing arm clamp pad / claw attachment. It travels on a rail system with pallets of product arranged on the other side of the rail. This provides the ability to rotate the attachment back and forth, pallet to pallet, efficiently selecting layers for pallet builds.
Safety is the number 1 priority. A Brief Summary of This Position
This is an individual contributor position responsible for preparing products and materials for the galvanizing process by hanging angle on spreader bars, staging tubular products, and preparing small parts for galvanizing. The Material Handler will also be responsible for inspecting and identifying production fixtures, chains, and hooks to ensure proper repair or discarding of unsafe items. Incumbent will also hand wire small to medium sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing, pull and place chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking, and move pieces of steel by hand from different locations in the plant and yard. The Material Handler also performs paddling functions to enhance the quality level of the various galvanized products using air guns to blow off zinc needles. Additional duties include using air or electric powered tools to help prepare steel for pickling or galvanizing, assisting in general plant clean up and housekeeping, and working safely with the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes the ability to complete a respirator fit test per OSHA standards which requires candidate/incumbent to trim or remove facial hair that interferes with the seal of the respirator.

The Material Handler does not have any direct subordinates, but does support the General Shop Help. The job level held is that of individual contributor within the function of Production.

A Brief Summary of This Position
This is an individual contributor position responsible for receiving, unloading, and storing incoming product loads and inspecting finished products for damage and defects. The incumbent will operate equipment used to move material including forklifts and shag trucks. They will be responsible for identifying material and product being loaded and unloaded. The incumbent will create tags for products being unloaded, which may involve taking notes and pictures and entering that information into the computer. Incumbent will be responsible for inspecting galvanized product to ensure a high quality finished product and making recommendations to resolve any damage or defects found in products. Interact with customers and truck drivers, coordinating special handling as a result of an inspection , general plant housekeeping, and work safely with the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Essential Functions:
Operate shag truck and forklifts with the capacity to move up to 22,000 lbs of material on and off of flatbed trailers and railcars
Communicating potential problems or needs with material to the Lead or Supervisor
Inspect incoming material for proper venting and hanging
Inspect galvanized material to ensure it meets the quality standards, reject material that does not meet quality standards, and coordinate special handling for this material
Read tags, bills of lading, and shipping and receiving papers
Create tags on incoming product with details including piece count and finished product packaging
Move pieces of steel and other material up to 50 pounds by hand from different locations in the plant and yard
Operate small hand tools including tape measures, micrometers, saws, drills, riveters, and nail guns
May require working in production or performing tasks outside of the shipping department to inspect and prepare materials for the galvanizing process, at the discretion of the supervisor and based on business needs.
