    Converting Manual Packer Sofidel America in Duluth, MN is currently seeking a Manual Packer to join our team. We are searching for a candidate who is local to the area and is looking for a long-term role in a stable environment. This position status is non-exempt and works a rotating 12-hour shift. The starting pay is $20.80 an hour. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to learn and perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Manual Packer's primary responsibility is to support the Converting department to meet the production goals established for the line in a safe manner. This position works closely with the Napkin Machine Operators, the Packaging Operators, and the Material Handler roles. This role reports to the Converting Production Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Safely perform various duties to operate, set up and maintain manual and automatic equipment and processes. Produce a finished product that meets customer and company requirements in execution of daily production schedule according to the SOP for the labeler and stretch wrapper. Able to continually evaluate the process and make corrections and/or suggestions to meet the company objectives. Flow to work as needed to assist in maintaining a safe and productive environment. Adhere to all health, safety, environmental, and company policies at all times and correctly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Understand and apply customer and product specifications to ensure finished goods meet quality standards. Perform quality checks and audits with honesty and integrity to ensure compliance with published standards. Maintain the cleanliness of the operating area and equipment to minimize risk of contamination. Perform regular inspections and evaluations of equipment condition, including safety guards and systems. Support and maintain a workplace culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability. Assist other operators, maintenance, or production personnel as needed in additional production duties. Education, Skills and /or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; six (6) to twelve (12) months experience manufacturing inventory and purchasing and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. SAP experience or other ERP experience preferred. Ability to work in a cross functionally across departments and in a team environment. Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize tasks as needed with strong time-management skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Follow all order specifications with attention to small detail including adhering a label on a specific location of the carton, using the appropriate carton and/or poly liner for packaging as required, ensuring that the product is facing the correct direction inside the carton, sealing the carton using a designated method, etc. Stack pallets properly while using the proper size skids for carton stacking. Perform visual and dimensional quality inspections with various hand measurement tools. Identify basic quality issues and make accept/reject decisions based upon the Boundary Board and Quality Standard. Use basic to average trouble shooting skills and gain job knowledge and experience to identify and communicate basic problems when forming parts. This includes recognizing a variety of forming conditions such as webbing, cold roll, etc. Diligently completes required paperwork or packing slips to maintain accurate product counts. Completes all paperwork and packing slips with minimal assistance and errors. Learn to run certain lines and operate with or without assistance. Follow good housekeeping practices by keeping work areas and common areas clean. Identify and report any unsafe work conditions, behaviors, or incidents. Follow and adhere to all safety procedures. Other duties as assigned by the lead, supervisor, or manager. Education, Experience, & Skills: The qualifications listed here are guidelines. Other combinations of education and experience could provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job. High School diploma or general education degree (GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience). Ability to read, write, and speak basic English.
