This position provides support for the reliability of all automation and control systems throughout the facility. The individual will work closely with all plant personnel to perform tests, diagnostics, repairs, improvements and upgrades to all equipment, instrumentation, process and procedures. Responsibilities: ● Drive a zero EHS incident culture, support and participate in incident investigations to determine root cause and identify preventive actions, correct unsafe conditions and acts immediately, and use every incident or near miss as a teaching moment for others ● Monitor, adjust, calibrate and repair manufacturing equipment, instruments, fixtures, etc. ● Conduct in-depth PLC, HMI, motor and drive troubleshooting and provide effective solutions - Allen Bradley required with at least one other manufacturer (i.e. Mitsubishi, Schneider, GE, Opto 22, etc.) ● Read and modify PLC ladder diagrams ● Perform electrical and electronic installations and modifications including drives and programming controllers ● Working knowledge of AC vector and servo drive technology. ● Understand in-depth electric circuitry, electronics and electromechanical concepts - AC and DC, Sinking / Sourcing, Analog, etc. ● Troubleshoot and maintain Fanuc robotic automation. (Palletizers, Case erectors, Pick and Place) ● Basic understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical concepts ● Basic understanding of PC components ● Interpret all levels of drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, specifications, etc. Knowledge of CAD system (i.e. AutoCAD, Vizio, etc.) ● Stay up to date with the latest state-of-the-art automation and control techniques ● Utilize problem solving techniques including PDCA to solve problems to root cause, implement actions that prevent reoccurrence, improve operations, etc. ● Supply higher level technical assistance to plant shift electrician team ● Provide training to all levels of the organization ● Ability to supervise contractors to minimize scheduled and unscheduled downtimes ● Maintain and manage the engineering department technical procedures, manuals and drawings, including records of as-built equipment and process changes ● Occasional need to work flexible hours. The Instrumentation, Electrical, and Controls (ICE) Technician I will assume responsibility for the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware, equipment, and systems utilized throughout the plant for production, quality control, and process safety management (PSM). In addition, the ICE Technician I will conduct regular equipment inspections, diagnose malfunctions via preventive maintenance plans, analyze equipment failures, and assist in determining root causes. The successful candidate will uphold the highest standards of safety and efficiency within our continuous operation facilities. What you will do: Wire, troubleshoot, and perform phase rotation verification for single- and three-phase electric motors (≤10HP). Troubleshoot standard control circuits (24VDC, 120VAC, etc.) and process signals (0-10VDC, 4-20mA, etc.). Install (in-kind), troubleshoot, and maintain industrial and motor control hardware, including sensors, operators, indicators, electro-mechanical relays, etc. Troubleshoot and replace sacrificial parts (fuses, overloads, etc.) on both energized (≤120VAC and ≤24VDC) and de-energized (>120VAC and >24VDC) circuits. Install, troubleshoot, and maintain application-specific controllers (smart relays, smart timers, process meters, scale controllers, CEMs, etc.). Verify and troubleshoot discrete and analog signals at all points, including and between the control system interface and the field device (valves, instrumentation, etc.). Perform adjustments (span, trim, etc.) and setpoint changes on field devices that do not require the use of a field communicator or other specialty interface. Troubleshoot and maintain pneumatic and electro-pneumatic hardware and systems used for the control and actuation of control valves and other pneumatically controlled hardware. Collaborate with equipment- or system-specific vendors and contractors to perform regular inspections and maintenance on equipment and systems. Audit the maintenance program (including job plans and defined procedures) and identify and recommend opportunities for improvement. Understand and comply with all OSHA, state/provincial, and local codes. Participate in plant training and safety programs. What you will bring: Someone with proven ability to work safely on or around electrical equipment or systems in an industrial environment. Solid understanding and working knowledge of equipment and hardware commonly found in industrial electrical control systems. Solid foundational understanding of, as well as the theory behind, basic process control systems, instrumentation hardware, and control devices. Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities as well as a proven ability to troubleshoot industrial control system and process control system equipment and hardware. Proven ability to read and understand documentation including, but not limited to, electrical schematics, P&IDs job site maps/directions, instruction manuals, and/or written instructions accurately. Willingness to collaborate with others and provide support, if needed, in other areas. Ability to work in potentially loud and odorous environments, different physical environments, or in various weather conditions. Must be able to move about in the processing areas and be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, stand and walk for sustained periods, climb stairs and ladders, bend, reach, push, pull, and enter tanks. Must have an Associate's Degree in an accredited program that aligns with the role's requirements AND a minimum of three years' experience working in a maintenance or maintenance-facing role in an industrial environment. Or, must have completed an array of technical trainings (that, when combined, provide a level of training and education commensurate with an Associate's Degree) and have three to five years of experience working in a maintenance or maintenance-facing role in an industrial environment. (Direct Current) drives, PLC (programmable logic controllers) as well as basic motor control circuits. - Electrical duties: performing all major and minor electrical repairs including 480V 3-phase motor repairs/installation, motor starter circuit repairs, VFD drives, photo-optic sensing devices, proximity switches, e-stop circuitry, and group fault detection in accordance to the guidelines established by Pactiv's "Electrical Safety Program", read and interpret schematics and basic electrical symbol identification, understand electrical theory including basic OHMS-law application, AC/DC drives, PLC, basic motor control circuits - Mechanical duties: clean, lubricate, and adjust equipment when needed, examine mechanical equipment to diagnose and repair problems, disassemble, repair/replace, and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment/devices including motors, conveyors, pumps, belts, chains, etc., read mechanical prints and technical data during installation and repair of equipment, read and interpret PI&D drawings - May assist with the training of other employees - Utilize mandatory safety equipment; executes duties in a safe and efficient manner; adhere to all safety rules and regulations - Assists maintenance and production staff as needed - Other duties may be assigned as needed Qualifications: - 5+ years automation technician experience within plastics industry; experience within Injection Molding industry highly preferred - Strong technical skills including mechanical, electrical, and electronic/PLC programming in a manufacturing/production environment - HS Diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree in related field preferred - Must possess the ability to work in tight spaces and on ladders/platforms - Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting robotics/automation - Understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, gearboxes, belts/pulleys, chains, and sprockets - Full term of experience must include working knowledge of electrical and electronic theory, ability to read schematics (electrical, mechanical/piping), P&ID diagrams, and blueprints - Experience working with Whittman and Krauss Maffie equipment is preferred Soft Skills: - Strong problem solving skills with a solutions oriented mindset and innovative, creative, critical thinking - Strong work ethic with a high sense of urgency, leadership qualities, strong teamwork mentality, independent self-starter - Leadership skills, high integrity, good judgement, professional, ownership, safety - Strong interpersonal skills in customer service, oral communication, written communications - Teamwork, planning, organizing, quality, quantity - Adaptability and flexibility - Attendance, punctuality, dependability Competencies: - Electrical: AC/DC Electrical competency; up to 480 volt AC and 90 volt DC. Ability to read wiring diagrams, use multimeters, need manual skills as well as programs, logics, editing/troubleshooting program and motor controls, 3 phase circuits - Electronic: PLC Experience with Allen Bradley and GE-Fanuc PLCs, AC and DC I/O cards, high speed counter cards, stepper motor control cards and operator interface controls (Horner, TCP and Allen Bradley). Knowledge of ladder logic, program sequencing, and PC diagnostic tools. Ability to troubleshoot PLC and control interface problems, including program downloads - Mechanical: Experience with power transmission systems including gear reducers, roller chain systems, and conveyors. Experience with pneumatic systems including solenoid valves and motion controls - Computers: Understanding of the operation of a Personal Computer and peripheral equipment. Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Outlook, Excel, Word, Access) or equivalent. Integrated Operation System (ERP).
