Page Private School company history timeline

1908

Page Academy traces its heritage back to Robert and Della Page Gibbs, two educators who founded Page Military Academy in a small house in Los Angeles, California in 1908.

1917

The school quickly grew and in 1917 it moved to a multi-acre site in West Los Angeles where the Gibbs’ values and teaching philosophy could reach even more children.

1923

Nebraska) was issued in 1923 as a result of a Nebraska law that forbade the teaching of a foreign language to any student prior to the ninth grade.

1926

In 1926, Smith College President William Allan Neilson established The Smith College Day School, which was created to serve as a learning environment for Smith College students in education and psychology and to offer a unique educational choice for the local community.

1928

The decade following the war witnessed a startling rise of membership in the Ku Klux Klan, a "Red Scare," and vitriolic anti-Catholicism in the presidential campaign of 1928.

1965

Needing more space, in 1965 a wing was added to Gill Hall.

1990

John Chubb and Terry Moe called for implementation of the voucher in 1990, under the auspices of the free market.

A growing number of non-Catholic religious schools, 11,476 by 1990 (46 percent of private schools), offset the Catholic school decline.

1996

Another expansion, converting the college’s former laundry building, was completed in 1996, with seven new classrooms added to the school’s facility to accommodate growing enrollment.
