Job Purpose The Shop Painter's primary responsibility is to prepare and paint drilling tools and equipment. This entry-level Shop Painter will also cross-train to assemble and repair drilling tools as well as troubleshoot and implement preventative/corrective maintenance on field equipment tools. Provides painting services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and maintenance needs; preparing, painting, staining and/or wallpapering a variety of surfaces; ensuring completion of projects in accordance with trade standards; and assisting other maintenance staff. Essential Functions * Paints interior and exterior surfaces to include walls, doors, woodwork, ceilings, hand railings, stair casings, signs, etc. * Prepares surface for painting including cleaning, taping, bedding, sanding, patching cracks and holes, and texturing of surfaces. * Erects scaffolding, removes furnishings and covers carpeting prior to painting; cleans and restores area after painting. * Works with various types of paints, solvents, lacquers, enamels, stains and varnishes; matches colors and textures on adjacent surfaces. * Cleans brushes and ensures that tools and equipment are properly maintained. * Monitors buildings and facilities for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance. * Paints a variety of surfaces (e.g. buildings, parking lot line striping and markings, floors, lockers, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in an attractive, safe, and usable condition. * May provide information order to identify needed supplies to supervisor for preparation of requisitions; may assist in the maintenance of inventory of paint, supplies and equipment. * Prepares a variety of surfaces, furniture, fixtures and cabinets (e.g. stripping, cleaning, sanding, patching, masking, nail holes, cracks, joints, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that they are ready for painting and/or refinishing. * Prepares requisitions for paint supplies and equipment. * Observes safety regulations and safe work practices; ensures proper disposal of hazardous materials. * Participates in meetings, workshops and trainings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions * Completes work orders accurately and timely * Keeps shop and work area clean, organized and clear of debris. * Cleans and reorganizes after every job/repair. * Properly stores chemicals, paint, flammables and equipment. * Follows all OSHA safety guidelines * Assures proper use and handling of ladders, tools and equipment. * Responds to calls from staff and members for maintenance and other needs. * Assists maintenance crew as needed on tasks, such as moving materials, equipment, cleanliness, etc. * Perform all work related duties as assigned by supervisor or Manager Interaction * Occasional interaction with members and vendors Working Conditions * Worker is subject to hot, humid and/or cold temperatures Schedule * Monday to Friday, 7 am to 3:30 pm. Oversee quality reporting, including NCRs, redlines, and part inspections. Maintain accurate timekeeping, approve payroll, and manage PTO requests. Submit Helpdesk tickets and request tools or consumables as needed. Communicate and document schedule progress. Write mid-year and annual performance reviews for direct reports. Prepare documentation for performance or disciplinary actions when necessary. Continuous Improvement Lead and participate in shop improvement teams and follow through on action items. Maintain and enhance 5S standards throughout the shop. Address and correct policy or behavior issues promptly and escalate when needed. Recognize and communicate strong performance from individuals or teams. Suggest and share ideas for design or process improvements. Track and report manpower hours and performance against goals. Required Qualifications Minimum high school diploma or GED, or relevant work experience in lieu of education. Material handling equipment experience: Must have ability to operate forklift safely. Must have the ability and knowledge to rig properly and safely run an overhead style crane. Minimum of six months experience with either supervising or providing technical direction to a team. Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check Desired Qualifications Associate degree from two-year college in a related technical field or certificate or diploma from trade school in related field and 5+ years' experience in industrial painting or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3 + years' experience with directly supervising maintenance staff. Experience carrying out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
