The Painter/Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for maintaining the painted surfaces and completing basic maintenance duties in and around clinic departments and residential apartments/homes. The position will maintain the facilities in an orderly and sanitary condition. The goal is to deliver high-quality painting as well as basic maintenance. Work is full time during the weekdays. Work is performed at the residential and clinic sites and includes outside work in ambient temperatures ranging from 30 - 100 degrees F +/- 2 degrees. The residential site may be a home and/or an apartment complex which may have two stories; if two stories, the top story is accessible by one flight of stairs. RESPONSIBILITIES - Apply paint, varnish, and other finishes to walls, ceilings, and other surfaces with brushes, rollers, and spray machines. - Prepare the surfaces to receive the coatings by cleaning the dirt, oil, and grease from the surfaces to be covered, removing old paint and wall coverings, cracks and holes are filled and smoothed over. - Must know what materials were used to make the paint and which types of paints are required for different materials, such as plaster, wood, brick, and metal. - Must have a good eye for color to mix and match paints. - Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS A high school diploma or equivalent, minimum eighteen years old, and be able to work well with their hands. Ability to judge colors is important. Working knowledge of different application techniques, proper care of tools and safe use and handling of paint, solvents, and adhesives.
