Meets all of the above APPRENTICE PAINTER qualifications.
Advanced understanding of Safety Requirements.
Good understanding of equipment used in the painting industry.
Able to properly use equipment - scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.
Has the ability to keep basic records. Can record environmental issues, accidents, paint information, changes, etc.
Can use MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) and TDS (Technical Data Sheets) and interpret them.
Has knowledge of appropriate preparation for Commercial and Residential projects. Knows how to set up work areas and provide property protection.
Good working knowledge of all paint pump systems. Knows how to select the appropriate pump, maintain and perform basic repairs, and choose the correct spray tips and housing for the coatings being used.
Has knowledge of the different types of substrates that get painted.
Can identify the appropriate level of surface preparation for each substrate to achieve durability and an aesthetically pleasing finish.
Can identify properly prepared substrates before applying coatings.
Can identify the proper coating for the individual substrates factoring in performance needs, durability and aesthetics.
Understands the difference between ferrous and non-ferrous substrates and how that relates to proper surface preparation and primers needed for each substrate.
Knows how to properly apply coatings to CMU (Concrete Masonry Units) and Stucco.
Good working knowledge of different types of brushes and how and when to use each.
Good working knowledge of different types of roller covers and how and when to use each.
Can brush and roll efficiently and effectively.
Can use a fan deck and perform color matches when necessary.
Understanding of sheen differences in coatings.
Understanding of light refractions and how light can influence colors. Can communicate this to clients when necessary.
Knowledge of the difference between oils, alkyds, acrylics, and hybrid paint types including their performance and application requirements.
Basic understanding of two-part products including how to mix them and apply them.
Can choose the proper joint sealant or caulking and apply it.
Ability to apply water-borne and solvent-borne paint systems using airless equipment.
Ability to operate a pressure washer and wash substrates without supervision.
Can communicate effectively with management and clients when necessary.
Painter Ones should be able to direct apprentices when necessary.

PAINTER TWO - $27.00 TO $31.00 PER HOUR
Meets all of the above PAINTER ONE qualifications.
Understanding of different wood species and the characteristics to apply the proper finish system for each.
Knowledge of toning and staining wood.
Can identify surface conditions of clear finishes and deficiencies such as air entrapment, specks of dried paint, fisheyes, orange peeling, holidays, flashing and blushing.
Ability to rectify deficiencies of clear coating systems.
Can determine procedures for treating wood depending on the coating system being applied.
Has the ability to finish cabinetry, millwork and wood trim with opaque coating systems and stained wood systems.
Knowledge of job site production rates pertaining to paint systems.
In depth knowledge of two-part coating systems and how to apply them.
Knowledge of paint components such as binders, pigments and vehicle.
Ability to select and apply coating stripping systems depending on substrate and coating being stripped.
Understanding of construction principles and working around other trades.
Can read blueprints, color schedules, color layouts, etc.
Understanding of schedules and how to meet them.
Can erect and install scaffolding as necessary to meet OSHA requirements.
Very skilled at setting up ladders and planking to meet OSHA requirements.
Can identify and enforce safety policies regarding PPE, fall protection, ladder safety, and equipment use.
In depth understanding of weather/environmental conditions and how this affects surface preparation and coating applications.
Can document these weather/environmental conditions as necessary. This includes air temperature, humidity, dew point, surface temperature, and dust levels.
Can recognize substrate conditions and deficiencies such as scaling, rusting, spalling, peeling, and cracking coatings.
Understands causes of deficiencies such as excessive moisture, efflorescence, improper taping/filling/sanding/texturing, insufficient cure times and improperly applied factory primers.
Can use an HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) sprayer and Pressure Pot spray equipment.
Ability to finish drywall to a Level 5 surface.
Excellent backroller - level 5 smooth wall is not an issue. Can make rolled surfaces appear sprayed when necessary.
Has excellent brush skills. Cutting straight lines can be done efficiently with a high level of quality.
Can be left alone on projects without direct supervision.
Can manage projects with little or no supervision.
Has the ability to train Apprentices and Painter Ones in surface preparation painting techniques.
Perform daily quality control checks on the work they are completing and the work being completed around them.
Paint and preparation problem solving abilities are highly developed .
PAINTER THREE - $32.00 AND ABOVE
Meets or exceeds all of the above PAINTER TWO qualifications.
Painter Threes can run jobs of all sizes and complexity.
Extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the painting trade.
Exudes professionalism in appearance, speech and mannerisms.
Extremely knowledgeable in all types of coatings and their application techniques. Can apply virtually any coating system. Only rare, unique coating systems are outside of their knowledge and skillset.
Has good leadership skills.
Can train APPRENTICES, PAINTER ONES and PAINTER TWOS in all aspects of painting.
Can run large painting crews on projects.
Gets the most out of other employees they are managing.

The incumbent in this role will be responsible for coordinating maintenance activities related to maintaining painted and/or surfaces with wall coverings within all areas of Billings Clinic. Duties:
Follow instructions from the supervisor to perform manual labor tasks typical of the industry
Interact with clients in a polite and business-like manner
Maintain a positive work environment and a team player attitude
Cultivate a positive safety culture by demonstrating safe practices and holding oneself and others accountable
Report all accidents and near-miss incidents immediately to the direct supervisor and HR
Arrive at job sites to be ready to begin work at start time
Wear company-required PPE attire
Handle and transport materials and equipment in a safe manner
Use power tools and machinery when needed
Prepare the site by assembling scaffolding and ladders as required
Cover trim, floors, furniture, and other surfaces with protective coverings
Clean up worksites from hazardous or obsolete materials
Report issues with equipment or unsafe conditions to the direct supervisor
Report any problems or disputes between the crew to the direct supervisor
Preserve material and supply inventory
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Must have a valid driver's license
Pre-employment drug screen and background check required upon offer of employment
Must have proficient painting skills with at least 2 years of previous experience.
Able to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods, lifting heavy loads of up to 50 pounds, etc.)
Able to receive and follow instructions and communicate with coworkers, clients, and vendors
Able to complete work at varying heights
Able to read and adhere to labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
Willingness to follow all safety protocols while on job sites
Normal work week is 40 hours with up to 10 hours of overtime pre-approved; anything over 50 hours must be approved ahead of time
