Palace Theater company history timeline

2004

Dedicated in September 2004, the space was named in memory of Megan Smith, a Greensburg-Salem High School graduate who perished in a car accident at the age of 18.

On November 12, 2004 Tony Bennett returned to the Palace Theater stage as the opening performer after the restoration.

The Palace Theater has hosted over two million patrons since 2004 and has been credited with generating a new sense of pride in downtown Waterbury, expanding the arts and cultural scene, and positively impacting area restaurants and businesses.

2006

Former President Bill Clinton visited the Palace Theater for the first time on July 24, 2006 for a primary campaign rally in support of Senator Joseph Lieberman.

The new Palace Theater high-tech glowing marquee is installed and revealed on November 10, 2006.

2007

Ken Burns debuted his seven-part documentary series The War on the Palace Theater stage on September 10, 2007.

2011

The theatre unveiled $1 million in restoration work to celebrate its 100th birthday on June 26, 2011 with screenings of "Sunset Boulevard.

2012

Sandi Hemmerlein's Avoiding Regret post on the Palace "Downtown LA's Palace Theatre, Restored (But Not Completely)" details her adventures via many photos taken on a 2012 LAHTF "all-about" tour.

2013

The liquor licenses obtained in 2013 were later surrendered as the theatres didn't get the kitchen facilities installed that were a condition of their issuance.

2015

The Hotel Project Behind the Palace: In 2015 a slender hotel was proposed for the lot right behind the Palace, at 633 S. Spring.

2017

The Palace Theater was host to the touring production of The Phantom of the Opera for 16 performances over a 2-week period in November 2017.

2018

Bob Dylan returned to the Palace Theater to another sold-out crowd on November 20, 2018.

2019

They were hoping to open in 2019.

2021

After 17 months of darkness, the curtain rose again on October 1, 2021 for 2 performances of Chazz Palminteri’s one-man show A Bronx Tale.
