Job Description As a Painter, you will prepare surfaces for the application of paint products and apply paint to aircraft and components. Inspects and maintains equipment for compliance with safety requirements, including but not limited to all guarding. Corrects any safety issues prior to operating the equipment. Inspects coated items for paint coverage and tests for coating thickness. Applies consistent mil paint thicknesses. Resolves quality and mechanical problems, making minor repairs and equipment adjustments as needed. Performs paint color changeovers. Cleans booth between color changes to prevent cross contamination. Prepares parts for rework and applies powder to correct coating defects. Cleans and maintains equipment. Conducts minor preventative maintenance on paint equipment as required by the preventive maintenance program. Records operational data on specified forms to track downtime, efficiency, and quality checks. Assists and trains others to paint. High School Diploma or GED required. 2 years in related paint processes. Aircraft industry experience preferred. Valid Drivers License required. The Aircraft Painter II works under minimum supervision to safely prepare, paint and detail aircraft according to schedule using company quality standards and operating procedures. In a team environment, under minimal supervision, perform a variety of painting operations in a production department. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Functions: Safely perform aircraft preparation, painting, and detailing of aircraft under minimal supervision. Coordinate with supervision and Inspection to ensure compliance with internal and FAA paperwork, sign-offs and quality specifications. Follow standard operating procedures when using tools and equipment such as dual action sanders, hydraulic lift platforms and paint sprayers. Properly care for and maintain shop equipment and tools. Follow standard operating procedures when using sealants, paint strippers and corrosion-preventive chemicals and use protective equipment as required. Comply with safety rules and procedures and be alert for unsafe conditions. Address unsafe conditions before putting people or property at risk. Use the material tracking system to create parts demand, track squawks and to sign-off work. Assist with aircraft movement in hangars. Offer continuous improvement ideas/participate in continuous improvement activities. Perform other duties as assigned.
