Palm Beach Atlantic University company history timeline

1968

The first classes at Palm Beach Atlantic University, formerly Palm Beach Atlantic College named for its location in the Palm Beaches, were held in the fall of 1968 in downtown West Palm Beach at 1101 South Olive Avenue in the former facilities of the First Baptist Church.

Palm Beach Atlantic University was the vision of and was founded by Jess C. Moody in 1968 while he was the pastor of First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach.

1972

In July 1972, Warner E. Fusselle, previously president of Truett-McConnell College, became the second president of the university and led the accreditation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools which was achieved in December 1972.

PBA held its first graduation in the spring of 1972 and later that year received initial accreditation from the regional accrediting association.

He served until the first class graduated in 1972 and resigned from the presidency to focus on his duties at First Baptist Church.

1981

After his resignation in 1981 to become the president of the Florida Baptist Foundation, Claude H. Rhea became president.

2002

2002: Vera Lea Rinker Hall | VLR is the home of the School of Music and Fine Arts, with more than 43,000 square feet of performance, classroom, practice and studio space.

2003

2003: DeSantis Family Chapel | The DeSantis Family Chapel provides a stunning, dedicated worship space for 400.

2003: Orlando Campus | PBA opened a campus in Orlando that provides 6,600 square feet of classroom and office space for evening and graduate degree programs.

David W Clark, President of FamilyNet, and founding provost of Regent University became the sixth President in 2003.

2007

Warren served as chairman of the trustees for 38 years until 2007.

2008

President Clark announced his retirement during the 2008-9 academic year the end of June.

2009

2009: Fern Street Theatre | A nearly 12,000-square-foot, two-story building in the heart of the arts district on Fern Street, includes a “black box” theatre and houses offices, classrooms and performance space.

2011

Hardin resigned the presidency of PBA on March 4, 2011, shortly before pleading guilty in federal court in Little Rock, Arkansas, to two federal felony charges (wire fraud and money laundering) which occurred during his tenure at UCA.

On March 10, 2011, William M. B. "Bill" Fleming, Jr., the university's vice president for development, was named interim president by the university's board of trustees.

2012

After a nationwide search, Fleming, who had served as interim president for more than a year, was elected by the trustees as the university’s eighth president, beginning his presidency on May 8, 2012.

2015

September 2015: PBA President William M.B. Fleming Jr. (right) cut the ribbon the 79-acre, $18 million Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Athletic Campus not far from the college's main campus.

2017

August 2017: The final renovations of Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Athletic campus were completed in the form of the John & Sheila Rinker Sports Center, a building which houses the athletic staff, a state-of-the-art weight room and locker rooms for varsity athletics.
