AGENCY OVERVIEW
CPCS is the state agency in Massachusetts responsible for providing an attorney when the state or federal constitution or a state statute requires the appointment of an attorney for a person who cannot afford to retain one. The agency provides representation in criminal, delinquency, youthful offender, family regulation, guardianship, mental health, sexually dangerous person, and sex offender registry cases, as well as in appeals and post-conviction and post-judgment proceedings related to those matters.
The clients we represent are diverse across every context imaginable and bring many unique cultural dimensions to the matters we address. The Northampton PDD Office provides public defense services for Hampshire and Franklin Counties. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Social Services Advocate works as part of a multidisciplinary legal defense team to provide zealous advocacy to adult criminal defendants in order to achieve the best possible legal and life outcomes. As part of the defense team, SSAs works collaboratively with attorneys, investigators, support staff, retained experts, law students and other interns. Working with the attorney on the pending legal case, the SSA helps identify the social and clinical issues that preceded arrest and those that may result from court involvement. The SSA must adhere to the rules of confidentiality under the attorney-client relationship. SSAs work under the supervision of the Social Services Advocate Director, with administrative direction provided by the Attorney in Charge.
The SSA's role includes bio-psychosocial interviewing and assessment, social history investigation, forensic case management, advocacy for clients within court, carceral, mental health, and social service systems, fostering family interactions and intervention, treatment and sentencing planning, report writing, testifying, and making direct connections between clients and programs. Social services intervention occurs at all stages of the court process, from the initial arraignment through resolution and post-conviction.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Services Advocate responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Maintaining close contact with clients over the duration of their case to build strong working relationships;
* Conducting both brief and in-depth interviews with clients respecting their individuality and with cultural humility to obtain client histories; connecting with and interviewing collateral contacts;
* Performing needs assessments, developing treatment or service plans, referring clients to service providers, and making direct connections between clients and programs;
* Gaining comprehensive knowledge of statewide and local programming and services, and working collaboratively with community-based services that support clients;
* Collaborating with defense counsel to develop defense strategies and dispositional options which demonstrate an understanding of the complexities of our clients' whole lives;
* Preparing and presenting courtroom testimony to describe services and dispositional alternatives arranged for the client;
* Preparing detailed and persuasive written advocacy for sentencing and mitigation purposes;
* Advocating for clients in a client-directed practice to facilitate best possible outcomes; and,
* Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
* Bachelor's degree in a social service field and one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience;
* Must have access to insured, reliable and available transportation, and a valid MA driver's license; and,
* Access to home internet access sufficient to work remotely.
A Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field is strongly preferred.

Role Overview:
The RN conducts high-quality, timely in-person clinical assessments in members' homes and in community settings across Massachusetts. The agency provides representation in criminal, delinquency, youthful offender, family regulation, guardianship, mental health, sexually dangerous person, and sex offender registry cases, as well as in appeals and post-conviction and post-judgment proceedings related to those matters.

OFFICE OVERVIEW
The PDD Springfield Office provides public defense services for Hampden County, and it services one of the busiest courts in the Commonwealth. Though one of the largest offices in the state, PDD Springfield is a close-knit office with a strong culture of teamwork and cooperation. The office has been at the forefront of cutting-edge litigation addressing police misconduct and counsel shortage crises. Attorneys in the office manage diverse caseloads in District and Superior Court; they also benefit from frequent in-office trainings and case mooting, and from having one of the two in-house interpreter programs in the Agency. The office has new facilities close to the courthouse, free parking, and in-house social service advocates, investigators, and administrative assistants.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Public Defender Division of CPCS, Springfield Office, is seeking a Supervising Attorney with a minimum of five years of experience providing criminal defense representation. Under the direction of the office's Attorney in Charge, the Supervising Attorney will assist in the supervision of Trial Attorneys and will also have their own reduced caseload. Clients are indigent persons charged with criminal offenses within the final jurisdiction of the respective court.
Qualifications
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
The following attributes are required for the position of Supervising Attorney:
* Must be eligible to practice law in Massachusetts either as a member of the Massachusetts bar in good standing or as the member of the bar of another jurisdiction eligible to engage in limited Massachusetts practice under Supreme Court Rule 3:04;
* A minimum of five years of experience providing criminal defense representation in District and Superior Courts;
* Access to an automobile in order to travel to courts, clients, and investigation locations that are not easily accessible by public transportation; and,
* Access to home internet access sufficient to work remotely.
Candidates must have sufficient trial experience in both the District and Superior Courts so they may supervise all Trial Attorney staff.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
The following attributes are preferred for the position of Supervising Attorney:
* Significant jury trial experience as lead counsel in criminal cases; including Superior Court cases;
* Commitment to working with a culturally diverse, low-income population,
* Willingness and ability to work positively and collaboratively with both the Attorney in Charge and Supervisees;
* A demonstrated commitment to the principle of zealous advocacy in the representation of indigent persons in criminal cases;
* Ability and commitment to complete annual performance evaluations in a timely and comprehensive manner;
* Strong interpersonal and analytical skills;
* Ability to work in community and defense-oriented capacity, both independently and collaboratively; and,
* Foreign language skills, Spanish in particular, are desirable.
Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Supervising Attorney will supervise Trial Attorneys assigned to District, and Superior Court cases in addition to their case responsibilities. The Supervising Attorney must be capable of supervising new Trial Attorneys as well as experienced Trial Attorneys practicing in the Superior Court, particularly around serious felony or otherwise complex cases.
The direct representation duties of the Supervising Attorney include:
* Client interviews;
* Arraignment and bail advocacy;
* Legal research and writing;
* Pretrial investigation including visiting crime scenes, locating and interviewing witnesses, collecting and reviewing documentary evidence;
* Preparing and arguing pretrial motions, affidavits and legal memoranda;
* Dispositional investigations and advocacy;
* Jury and bench trials of criminal cases; and,
* Representation of clients in interlocutory proceedings.
The supervisory duties of the Supervising Attorney include, but are not limited to, the following in accordance with the CPCS Guidelines for Supervision of Public Defender Trial Attorneys and the Guidelines for the Implementation of Unified Public Defender Division Offices:
* Regular one-on-one meetings with individual supervisees to review case files, as well as group meetings, to review case preparation and performance;
* In-court supervision, including second-seating of trials and significant pretrial hearings;
* Preparation of annual performance evaluations;
* Presentation of in-office training sessions;
* Supervision of other staff, such as investigators and student interns, as delegated by the office's Attorney in Charge; and,
* Other duties as assigned.

The Late Stage Collection Specialist I will be responsible for counseling borrowers on methods for bringing their loan current and/or exploring alternative solutions. This role is the first level of the Loan Counselor job family and incumbents generally perform work of low to moderate complexity. What you'll do:
Explains detailed mortgage loan information to borrowers including the HUD Waterfall, mortgage loan information and loan workout and modification options to borrowers.
Evaluates and helps determine the borrower's ability to pay, and collects appropriate financial information in a courteous and professional manner, striving for first-call resolution and in compliance with all applicable regulations.
Counsels borrowers on their options through education of alternative solutions.
Contacts borrowers, utilizing an automated dialing system (Aspect Dialer) for both inbound and outbound calls and conducts manual outbound calls.

Provide status on a wide variety of loan servicing functions including loss draft, short sale, Deed in Lieu of Foreclosure, modification/refinance requests, payment/credit disputes, escrow refunds, vendors for REO properties, repayment plans, and down payments on foreclosure pending mortgages.
Knowledge of or ability to learn requirements of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
Knowledge of relevant and industry-specific computer software packages.
Strong verbal communication skills - ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, communicating orally with others accurately, audibly, and quickly.
Basic to Intermediate math skills (i.e., add, subtract, multiply, and divide and to record, balance, and check results for accuracy).
