Key Responsibilities:

Prepare information to open and close client files, maintain filing systems and databases, conduct preliminary conflict checks for new cases, and handle billing procedures.
Complete special assignments independently or under general direction.
Manage legal documentation and correspondence with confidentiality.
Correspond with counsel, court, and clients as needed.
Assist with billing needs.
Create and manage both digital and hard copy filing systems for assigned attorneys.
Perform various other duties as assigned.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in-house counsel with review, negotiation and drafting of agreements, commercial bids, and other documents. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage numerous assignments simultaneously and to work independently in the support of multiple attorneys. Experience in civil litigation law is desired. Job duties will consist of, but are not limited to, investigation, research, legal documentation preparation, coordinating and scheduling legal actions, compiling, and organizing documents and exhibits, drafting routine and specialized documents, and maintaining departmental filing systems.
The successful candidate will have a Paralegal certificate, an Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies, a Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies or other discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate must also have strong written and verbal skills. The position will undertake other assignments as needed.

1. 2. Maintains files for open cases; prepares and submits documents; opens and closes files.
3. Coordinates the schedule of City Attorney and opens litigation cases; contacts necessary internal and external departments.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Alston & Bird's Charlotte, NC office is seeking an experienced Paralegal to work in our complex Litigation & Trial practice group. Qualified candidates will have at least 5+ years of experience in all stages of litigation as a paralegal to include pretrial and trial experience. Experience with federal and state court litigation is required. Candidates should be self-starters, highly organized, and team players. Overtime is often needed to meet client deadlines.
Organize, maintain, and manage case files, including correspondence, court filings, discovery materials, and trial notebooks
Utilize document management systems and databases (e.g., Relativity, Westlaw, LEXIS) to store, track, and retrieve case-related information
Maintain accurate daily time records and document retention systems for large-scale litigation
Conduct legal research and Cite-Checks using online databases and traditional resources to locate case law, statutes, regulations, and other relevant materials
Compile, analyze, and report on data from legal reference materials and discovery documents
Analyze incoming data and prepare detailed internal and client-facing reports
Draft shells for complaints, answers, motions, petitions, affidavits, and legal correspondence
Review, proofread, and summarize legal documents, including depositions, for accuracy, grammar, context, and key content
Assist in trial preparation, including drafting pretrial orders, jury instructions, voir dire questions, witness and exhibit lists, and motions in limine
Support attorneys during trial by scheduling and contacting witnesses and experts, obtaining written statements when necessary, tracking exhibits, and managing trial logistics
Familiar with e-discovery processes and Relativity software
Consult with attorneys to establish workflows for efficient document review and legal automation
Perform automated support tasks to prepare, organize, and manage exhibits and evidence
Prepare materials for client communications and mailings
Follow ethical requirements as outlined by the Rules of Professional Conduct
Apply knowledge of civil and criminal procedures and court requirements to support litigation needs
SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
Flexibility and the ability to work overtime are essential
Excellent time management and project management skills are required including ability to set and manage multiple priorities and make appropriate judgments
Detail oriented, excellent oral and written communication and follow-up skills are crucial (spelling, grammar usage, writing skills, etc.)
