The Philadelphia office of Hall Booth Smith, PC experienced litigation paralegal The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of complex insurance defense litigation experience and knowledge of both Federal and State Rules. Additional requirements include but are not limited to: excellent verbal and written communication skills; understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes; excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines; strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to function well in a high-paced environment; and a self-starter starter who takes initiative to complete daily tasks.
Specific responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
Assist attorney(s) in complex state and federal cases from initial pleadings through trial;
Perform initial case assessments to determine further document discovery to facilitate initial investigation of claim;
Draft pleadings, scheduling orders, and motions for state and federal court;
Draft discovery requests and responses to include the preparation of voluminous records for production and drafting of privilege logs;
Interpret and summarize medical records and bills;
Prepare subpoenas for records;
Effectively communicate with experts, insurance adjusters, witnesses, clients, and opposing counsel;
Schedule meetings, depositions, and mediations;
Assist with jury selection and witness preparation for trial;
Meet a billing requirement of 140 hours per month: and
Assist with preparation of trial notebooks and exhibits.
