WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY: A National or State Paramedic License. Valid driver license with an insurable record. Be at least 20 years old by the time you start work. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Ability to compassionately serve the patients in your community. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: Respond to medical emergencies in the community. Assess illnesses and injuries and administer basic to advanced emergency rescue and paramedical care. Provide medical treatment to the ill and injured and manage the illness or injury during transport. Prepare patients for transport via ambulance to hospital. Guide and support EMT's in the application of appropriate EMS techniques. Operate emergency vehicle and equipment to care and transport the patient effectively. Complete patient records and transfer of information to healthcare provider. Provide compassionate patient care. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Arrives to work on time and as scheduled in order to comply with mandated Company and EMS standards. Administers first-aid treatment and life-support care to sick or injured persons in the pre-hospital setting. Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical treatment procedures. Manages or assists paramedics and nurses in the management of illness or injury for emergency patients in accordance with specified protocol and procedure. Performs emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures listed in the State EMS Scope of Practice, such as splinting, medication administration, stomach suction, intubation, airway management and heart monitoring during ambulance transport. Operates equipment such as EKGs, external defibrillators and bag-valve mask resuscitators in advanced life-support environments. Observes, records, and reports to a healthcare provider the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided and reactions to drugs and treatment. Effectively coordinates patient care with other emergency medical team members and police and fire department personnel. Communicates with dispatchers and treatment center personnel to provide information about emergency situations, to arrange reception of victims and to receive instructions for further treatment. Prepares or assists in the preparation of patients for transport, ensuring compliance with emergency medical transport regulations, protocol and procedures. Inspects emergency medical equipment and vehicles to ensure serviceability and compliance with safety and infection control regulations and standards. Completes and transfers patient care information and records as per established procedures. Takes every reasonable precaution to maintain security and protection of sensitive data. Provides comfort and reassurance to patients and patients' family members. Safely operates emergency vehicle in accordance with state law and company protocols, including during stressful situations. TRAINING & EDUCATION: The individual in this position must possess the following education requirements: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Completion of a recognized Paramedic training program. Valid & current State of California Certification as an EMT-P in good standing. Kern County certification may be obtained post-offer; prior to orientation. Valid & current Class C California Driver License. Charge Nurse independently provides holistic, individualized care using the nursing process for patients routinely seen on the unit. Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competency, nursing judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care with a positive manner. Is responsible for the coordination of quality patient care through the implementation of the nursing process on a shift basis. Specific areas of responsibility include, but may not be limited to: serving as a resource person, role model, mentor, ensuring therapies and treatments are given as ordered, immediate oversight of staff assigned to that unit. assisting in staff development, and direct communication with the Clinical Managers and Department Director of the unit as well as Administration as appropriate. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS: Must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. Must have and maintain current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS cards or obtain prior to hands on patient care. Must have or be eligible to enroll in MICN and obtain prior to being assigned as a Charge Nurse independently. Responsibilities and Essential Functions: *Indicates Essential Function 1 * Makes patient care assignments utilizing Benner's Novice to Expert. Coordinates with the Director or Clinical Manager/House Supervisor in times of high census as patients are triaged to a lower level of care to include discharge. Coordinates patient admissions, transfers, and discharges with assistance as appropriate. 2 * Coordinates staffing needs with the Clinical Manager and/or Staffing Coordinator/Nursing Supervisor. Ensures accurate reporting of census and patient acuity for staffing purposes. 3 * Coordinates breaks and lunches to provide a reasonable ratio of experienced and orienting personnel to provide ongoing patient care. 4 * Ensures appropriate staff response to all "Code" situations. 5 * Supports achievement of improvement and follows through on actions resulting from QA/QC findings. Encourages participation from coworkers. 6 * Facilitates and coordinates intra and inter departmental relationships or teamwork. Maximizes and identifies resources for quality improvement opportunities on the unit. 7 * Assists in the writing/revising of policies and procedures to keep unit current with regulatory requirements. 8 * Flexes staff up/down based on scheduled caseload, maintains appropriate resource use by monitoring staff and patient changes. 9 * Assists with addressing and diffusing patient complaints and patient conflict situations. 10 * Maintains open, two-way verbal and written communication with staff, physicians, Director/Clinical Manager and all other hospital departments. 11 * Attends daily bed meetings (0900 & 1600) to assist with patient admissions as appropriate for individual unit. 12 * Mentors staff in problem analysis/resolution, encourages freedom of expression. 13 * Is a mentor for staff and participates in leadership and management self-development. Identifies and communicates clinical issues that require management intervention. 14 * Demonstrates excellent skills in working with others and elicits their cooperation. 15 * Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge and clinical skills in area of specialty and all required competencies. Able to function in a trainer role for all staff. 16 * Participates in committee and/or task forces to improve nursing practices and/or service. 17 * Role models and encourages participative unit decision making. 18 * Assumes responsibility for the coordination of activities in the unit on their assigned shifts. EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES: 1 * Demonstrates competency to and successfully fulfills all duties and responsibilities of the Triage Nurse job description. 2 * Facilitates patient flow based upon EMS information and triage criteria. Ensures timely response to all radio calls, facilitates transfers while adhering to EMTALA regulations. 3 * Responds or sends appropriate delegate to all "code blue" calls on the first flow and all "code white" calls throughout the facility. 4 * Consistently involved in Professional Development Classes for further knowledge in Emergency Nursing such as: TNCCC, ENPC, NRP, National Conference related to Emergency Nursing, and CEN.
