POSITION SUMMARY:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum Management- The laws of EMS are constantly changing and evolving. California's EMS Directives are a combination of both state and local guidelines, meaning there is a constant update needed to maintain compliance.
Instructor Acquisition/Evaluation/Scheduling- It is the responsibility of the Program Director to find qualified candidates to teach the course as lead instructors and skills instructors. In conjunction with the internal resumes that are generated from online, public outreach is necessary to find candidates for this position. As most of the candidates will be part time/industry professionals, each cohort will have to be scheduled, in advance, for the availability of the individual instructors. Instructors will be evaluated by the Program Director by sitting in on lectures and evaluating student progress in testing and pass rates
Lead Instructor- While there will be a cadre of instructors to assist in teaching the curriculum, the Program Director will be the Lead Instructor, who's license is on file with the applicable County, and will most likely be responsible for teaching most of the class sessions.
Marketing/Admissions Support- The EMT Program is new to the US College system. As such, some of the marketing and admissions staff need additional training and support to find the right students and to adjust the ways in which leads are generated to ensure that Admissions Counselors are not calling potential students who have no interest in becoming an EMT.
Branch Campus Management- The main campus for the School of EMS is currently San Diego, however other campuses may have an approved program that requires additional work and training to become fully functioning program to attract students. As other campuses wish to add the School of EMS to their catalog, it will be the task of the Program Director, in conjunction with the Director of Education, to create a program that is approved by the local governing body and bring the foundation of the program to that campus.
Qualifications:
Paramedic with NREMT certification at minimum, or:
Physician, Registered Nurse (RN), Physician Assistant (PA), or a Paramedic currently licensed in California, and who shall have two (2) years of academic or clinical experience in emergency medicine or prehospital care in the last five (5) years.

The North County Fire Protection District is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Single Role Paramedic. This position is not represented by the Fallbrook Firefighter's Association Safety or Non-Safety Bargaining groups. This is a Non-Safety/Non-Firefighter position. Under the supervision of a Fire Captain, the Single Role Paramedic provides basic medical care and transport of the ill and injured to hospitals or other emergency care facilities; responds to a variety of emergency and non-emergency calls for service; participates in community risk reduction and public education activities; performs station and equipment maintenance; and performs a variety of other duties relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
HOURS OF WORK:
Current schedule is a 48/96 schedule with a total of 2912 scheduled hours per year. On 24-hour shifts, regularly scheduled activities are generally performed from 0800-1700 and emergency call responses are performed throughout the work shift. During “regular work hours”, employees are provided two 15-minute breaks and a 60-minute lunch break. Single Role employees are classified as 40-hour employees, and any and all hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week will be paid as 1 ½ times the regular rate of pay in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responds to emergency and non-emergency medical calls for service and provides basic life support functions as indicated.
Assists Staff/employees/others in delivering medical care.

BENEFITS OF EMPLOYMENT:
WORK SCHEDULE: Single Role Paramedics may be assigned 10, 12 or 24 hour shifts as necessitated by the District.
RETIREMENT: Full-time Single Role employees will be added to the CalPERS system upon assignment. Part-time employees that are previous CalPERS members or reach a total of 1,000 hours within a fiscal year with the District will receive CalPERS retirement benefits. Once eligible, the employee remains and active member. Employees are responsible for paying the full “employee rate” for their membership class.
Retirement benefits provided by the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) for either “CLASSIC” employees or “NEW” employees, as defined by the California Pension Act of 2013.
CLASSIC employees with 2.7% at age 55 formula for Miscellaneous employees. Employees with this classification are responsible for their 8% contribution.
A “NEW” employee is defined as: A new hire who becomes a CalPERS members for the first time on or after January 1, 2013, and who has no prior membership in any other California Public retirement system, or who is not reciprocal with another California public retirement system; A new hire who is brought into the CalPERS membership for the first time on or after January 1, 2013, and who is not eligible for reciprocity with another California public retirement system; or An established member prior to January 1, 2013, who is hired by a different CalPERS employer after January 1, 2013, after a break in service greater than six months. The District provides retirement benefits described in California Government Code, Section 7522.25, known commonly as 2.0% at 62. Final compensation will be based on the highest annual average compensation earnable during the three consecutive years of employment immediately preceding the effective date of his/her retirement.
A “NEW” employee shall pay the higher of six and a half percent (6.5%) or one-half the total normal cost [up to a maximum of twelve percent (12%)] as determined by CalPERS, as their employee retirement contribution.
INSURANCE/BENEFITS: The District provides a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare, vision, dental, EAP (counseling), and employer paid life insurance.
SICK LEAVE: Sick leave is accrued at a rate of one (1) hour for each thirty (30) hours worked. Sick leave may be accrued to a maximum of 400 hours and has no cash value upon separation from the District.
ANNUAL LEAVE: Annual leave is accrued biweekly at a rate of ninety-six (96) hours annually, up to a maximum of 480 hours for Paramedics assigned to a full-time schedule only.

Description and Essential Functions Annual Salary: $75,678 - $92,019* (24-Hour Shift Schedule) All Paramedic positions are on a regular 24-Hour shift schedule. * Salary range reflects 40 regular hours plus additional overtime hours worked on a 24-Hour shift schedule.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Under supervision, responds to fire alarms, emergency medical calls, and other emergency calls to protect life and property; participates in fire training, fire prevention, public education, and station and equipment maintenance activities; operates a paramedic unit in response to medical emergencies and provides definitive medical care; and performs related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives supervision from an assigned Fire Captain. Receives direction through San Diego County EMS protocols and from the Battalion Chief, EMS Educator and Medical Director.

Minimum Qualifications

HIRING PROCESS

Step 2.Candidates are required to submit certification of successfully completing the Chula Vista Fire Department's (CVFD) EMS Skills Performance Test (Megacode).
For candidates who currently do not possess a valid CVFD Megacode Certificate, you will be invited to participate in an EMS Skills Performance Test (Megacode) administered by the Chula Vista Fire Department. This performance test (Megacode) will assess your knowledge and skill in patient evaluation and treatment.

POSITION:
Reserve firefighters, under direct supervision, attend scheduled drills and perform a myriad of firefighting and EMS skills including but not limited to: responding to structure fires, wildland fires, vehicle accidents and medical aids. Other duties may include vehicle and apparatus maintenance as well as station maintenance. During scheduled ride-along shifts the reserve may be assigned to an engine company or a transporting ALS unit.
TRAINING:
Each new reserve firefighter will be required to attend an orientation prior to scheduling their shifts. Upon completion of the orientation, the reserve firefighters will attend a reserve academy consisting of 8 days of training on a myriad of firefighting skills. The reserves will come together collectively to schedule which days they will complete the reserve academy. Upon completion of the reserve academy, reserves will be able to schedule shifts according to District policy. Reserves are assigned a task book consisting of firefighting and station tasks they are responsible for completing. The reserve program is very flexible and willing to work with the reserves and their busy schedules. The District understands the rigorous steps to becoming a firefighter and will help in anyway shape or form. The District is willing to work with reserves who are in the fire academy and paramedic school. We are dedicated to getting the reserves the necessary experience to become successful firefighter/paramedics.
SALARY RANGE: Unpaid, volunteer
SCHEDULE: At least four (4) 24-hour shifts per quarter and attend one (1) Saturday drill per month.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
● 18 years of age or older
● Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
● Possess a CA Class C Driver's License
- Ambulance driver certificate (must have by start date)
● Possess a valid San Diego County EMT certification EMT Accreditation (SD County)
