Auto-ApplyPart-time Paramedic
Paramedic job in Woodland Park, CO
We are always accepting applications for Part-Time Paramedics.
Ute Pass Regional Health Service District is constantly growing and molding to the needs of the community we serve. We are not your typical 911 ambulance agency that just responds to calls, treats, transports and goes to the emergency room. We are a service that holds our providers to a high standard of education, community involvement, teamwork, continued education, and to put it simply, doing the right thing. In general, this is who we are:
Our ALS providers are highly encouraged to get their Community Paramedic (CP-C) Endorsement and/or Critical Care once they are finished with their field training. These endorsements help us to grow and to be able to respond to patient's needs when an ambulance ride and an ER might not be the best answer. This helps us to think outside of the box on how to best serve our patients and community. We take the necessary time on scene to help get the correct answer rather than ‘just an answer' even if this takes hours. Our CPs are trained to provide advanced assessments, telehealth, lab work, and provide medications on scene - similar to a mobile urgent care. We know this is the direction EMS is going and we are on board. We need our candidates to share this vision and be excited to help this program grow and be successful.
We also provide interfacility transports for our local hospital. At times this is a large part of our call volume. The local hospital is one of many community partners that we always treat with professional mutual respect and collaboration. The patients that we transfer from there are always receive the highest care that we provide which includes additional waivers and some critical care.
Our health service district also responds to backcountry calls which includes hiking out to your patients and providing assessment, treatment, and extrication which can take many hours to do.
We cover over 539 square miles of rural area that gives our providers long transport and patient contact times.
Our shifts are currently the 24-hour Modified Kelly schedule but can change in the future to hours that are safer and more productive depending on call volume and workload. The 24-hour shift schedule is not promised to stay but is unknown if and when it could change. As part-time, you are able to pick up shifts, and at times, split the shifts to accommodate your schedule.
We are good community partners and do our best to provide the best professional attitudes with those we work with and expect you to do the same.
Each year our call volume increases. Last year we ran about 4,200 calls. This year we are on track to run even more with our programs and 911 responses.
Because our district is so diverse, we have many different avenues to help our patients, and we do a significant amount of system status management on our own like self-dispatching, managing district coverage, and managing multiple calls at once. If there is a need, we may put a BLS car in service with an ALS fly car. With this, we need our EMT's to take their training, education, and assessment skills seriously. We hope our candidates are quick to think on their feet, good at problem solving, and great at working and communicating with others to accomplish the mission and goals.
Our providers take ownership of their agency by assuming additional tasks and responsibilities in addition to their duties as a medical provider such as: education and training, QA/QI, building maintenance, vehicle maintenance, community outreach, special event coordination, different district task force and committee projects, supply ordering, medical equipment maintenance and accountability, vehicle inspection and licensing, etc. UPRHSD has some of the best providers and hard workers you may have ever experienced. They truly live up to the mission statement of our district by constantly working to provide the best care and always striving to do better.
The field training is dependent on your performance, pace of learning, attitude, and involvement. This involves taking a significant amount of the calls on your workdays, training and reading guidelines on your downtime, and staying productive. To be successful, you need to be able to accept feedback and show improvement so you can grow in the right direction.
As a part-time Paramedic, you will have a training academy that you must attend most, if not all the days. (Days TBD throughout the year). From there, you do 4, 3rd rides which you have 60 days to complete them. This is followed by a year to get your task book and test complete. You must stay current with the medical director's request in order to work under his license and for UPRHSD.
If you feel that you can be a part of this self-motivated, hardworking, pliable team, please fill out the application. If you do not feel you would be a good fit for our culture at our agency, that is perfectly ok. We understand that there are different places for different types of people. Our intent is to be upfront and transparent with you about who we are and what we do so you can make a well-informed decision. It is our desire to see our goals, objectives, and passions align with yours and see you succeed.
