    Department: Emergency Room Schedule/Status:Varies: Per Diem Standard Hours/Week:12 General Description:Under the general supervision of the Director of Emergency & Women's Services, ED Medical Director, ED Physician, and/or Registered Nurse (RN), the Paramedic is responsible for the provision of care for assigned ED patients. This employee has access to medication storage areas, may receive, deliver, store and administer certain medications as specifically listed. The Paramedic participates with the RN and medical provider in planning, coordinating, and implementing plan of care to ensure quality, appropriateness, timeliness, professionalism, and effectiveness of service rendered. Key Responsibilities: Provide all aspects of Emergency Department (ED) care based on established standards. Demonstrate competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the medical needs of patients served; the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs; knowledge of growth and development; and an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients. Order, stock and replenish supplies within the department. Set up and assist with special procedures as instructed by physicians, medical providers and nurses. This includes obtaining, preparing, and handling supplies and equipment necessary to perform the procedure (i.e. antibiotic cream, betadine, sutures, etc.). Position requires access to medication room and Pyxis. Assist with the collection of medication history. Assist patients with activities of daily living (i.e. toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, etc.). Removal of Foley catheters. Application of splinting devices. Crutch fitting and patient instruction in crutch walking. Removal of staples and sutures. Point of care glucose testing. Phlebotomy. Insertion and removal of peripheral intravenous catheters. Wound care: minor and complex. Completion of 12-lead EKG. Application of cardiac monitoring. Identification of lethal and other cardiac dysrhythmias. At the direction of the medical provider or RN: administer and document select medications including intravenous fluids (0.9% normal saline; lactated ringers) without additives and non-controlled medications by oral route only; initiate oxygen therapy; apply restraints. At the direction of, and with the physician at bedside during attempts of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, perform Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) duties to the extent of training through the American Heart Association (AHA) including: defibrillation, cardioversion, administration of ALS medications (excluding sedatives, paralytics, infusions or drips), insertion of intraosseous vascular access device. Transport stable, non-ICU patients to inpatient units (i.e. no active blood transfusions or cardiac drips); assist the RN with patient transport to Critical Care areas. Participate in ED Process Improvement projects. Act as a champion for Patient Experience. Attend 75% of all staff meetings. Performs similar or related duties as assigned. Required to respond to emergency situations (i.e. disasters, hurricanes, etc.) by reporting to the department and staying until the crisis is over or position is covered by incoming personnel.     Flight Paramedic/TFO Part Time Posting Closes: February 2, 2026 Starting Pay: $30.00 hourly General Description: The Volusia Sheriff s Office Aviation Unit operates three (3) Bell 407 helicopters. On most missions, the Flight Paramedic/TFO sits beside the pilot operating the police radios and camera systems. On medical missions, the medic will move into the rear of the cabin to provide care to patients while in flight to the nearest trauma center. In a typical year, our Air One crews will provide lifesaving care to over 100 patients on medevac missions. In addition to general law enforcement duties, as well as medevac duties, Air One crews perform various search and rescue missions for the US Coast Guard, as well provide support in fighting wildfires. Note: This posting is for a part-time, no benefits position with the requirement to work one (1) prescheduled 12-hour shift per month. Additional hours will be scheduled on an as-needed basis. Shifts for Air One are a 12-hour shift (0530-1730 or 1730-0530). This position could be to fill vacancies on both days and nights.     Major Functions The County of Volusia is seeking Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) candidates to provide basic life support, pre-hospital medical care, and transportation for the ill and injured throughout Volusia County. is posted on a continuous basis and may close without notice.* This position requires availability for around-the-clocks shifts. This position includes days, nights, weekend shifts and holidays. Hiring Range Emergency Medical Technician: $17.46 EMT's with less than 1 year experience can expect an offer at the minimum rate. Lead EMT Pay After 6 months of employment with Volusia County EMS, as a full time EMT, and continued education and training as required by the County, EMT's are eligible to apply for "Lead EMT" status.
