Emergency Room RNs will perform minor medical operations, advise patients and family on illnesses or injuries, and plan long-term care needs. Other responsibilities as an ER Travel Nurse include documenting medical history, checking for any allergies patients might have, obtaining patient vital signs, and monitoring patients' emotional and physical well-being.
As an ER Travel Nurse, you should be prepared to perform the following tasks:
Provide basic bedside care.
Clean and bandage wounds.
Provide IV therapy.
Maintain supplies and medical equipment.
Report suspected abuse to appropriate agencies.
ER Travel Nurses should be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, as well as bend, lean and stoop without difficulty. RNs should be able to easily lift 20 pounds. Moving or lifting of patients may require lifting of up to 50 pounds at times. Because of the fast-paced environment, Emergency Room RNs must possess good skills for coping with stress and be able to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Conducts care of patient with attention to right to privacy and confidentiality. Coordinates with law enforcement and advocacy groups when applicable.
Provides patient education regarding exam, procedures, treatment, STD prevention, pregnancy prevention and follow-up care.
Participates in education of sexual assault nurse examiners, law enforcement, health care providers and the community as necessary.
Provides legal testimony on SANE cases when subpoenaed or requested by legal representation.
Pursues professional growth and development as a member of the SANE program on a continuous basis.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

You will support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
You will manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
You can be a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.

Written Examination
The entry level test for firefighter will be conducted by Public Safety Answers. The test will be a virtual test that candidates must take by December 29, 2025.
The test will evaluate whether or not you possess the critical, and job-related, skills and abilities necessary for success on the job.
Upon completion of the written examination, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the City of Elgin. Candidates who score at or above 75% on the written examination will be moved to the video interview questions stage of the process.
Background Investigation
The candidates who successfully pass the written examination and video interview stages of the process will be subject to a background investigation which could consist of the following: complete criminal history check at the national, state and local level; complete traffic history at the state and local level; review of employment history with prior employers and possibly current employer; verification of military status (if applicable); personal/phone interviews with personal references.
Candidates passing the background investigation will be scheduled for an oral interview.
Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)

Summary/Objective:
The Paramedic will oversee the practical aspects of the pharmacologic stress test while assisting the Nuclear Medicine Technologist. The Paramedic is responsible for providing an overview and instructions to each patient, including the effects of the stress agent, adverse effects that they might experience, and how any adverse effects will be managed.
Essential Functions:
Prepares patient for stress testing procedure; including patient interviews, obtaining medical history, obtaining patient consent and required signatures, and conducting patient teaching related to nuclear imaging procedure, including risks and complications.
Assesses patients' blood pressure, pulse, obtains oxygen % saturation levels and establishes Peripheral Intravenous (IV) access.
Sets up and monitors patient through 12 lead EKG stress testing including application of 12 lead EKG monitor pads and application leads.
Identifies EKG rhythm and interpretation under physician guidance.
Under the direct supervision of the site physician, applies ACLS algorithms if patients experience complications or cardiac arrest during procedure including administration of resuscitation pharmacological agents, oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway placement.
Completes daily paperwork at customer site to include obtaining physician signature(s), photocopying, scanning, etc.
Maintains inventory of supplies and drugs at hub and on mobile unit.
Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety and environmental standards.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

The Hiring Process

* Drive and operate all fire department apparatus and equipment upon successful completion of department certification process

Minimum Qualifications:
* Must be 18 years of age.
* Hold and maintain a valid state of Wisconsin driver's license.
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
* A minimum of 60 college credits within three (3) years of appointment.
* Wisconsin State Certified Firefighter I or State of Wisconsin recognized equivalent.
* Wisconsin licensed EMT-Basic, Advanced or Paramedic.
* National Incident Management System (NIMS) Independent Study 100, 200, 700, 800
* Must reside within twenty (20) miles from the jurisdictional boundary of the City of New Berlin within three (3) months of successful completion of initial hire probationary period.
Position Requirements
* All new hires will be required to possess the following certifications prior to completion of probationary period of a minimum of 18 months or up to 36 months depending on completion of certifications:
* Wisconsin State Certified Firefighter II, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator Aerial and Fire Inspector I or State of Wisconsin recognized equivalent
* Successfully complete the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within 12 months from date of hire
* Obtain and maintain Wisconsin Paramedic license throughout employment
Preferred Qualifications:
* Wisconsin State Certified Emergency Services Instructor I, Fire Officer I and NIMS 300, 400 are highly desirable.
Working Environment and Physical Demands
Work is performed in a variety of settings including fire stations, non-emergency and emergency scenes, emergency response vehicles; and work may involve off-duty recall for major emergencies. The environment ranges from routine to emergency settings with unusual modes of communications, extreme noise, discomfort and hazard. The emergency environment may require the performance of hazardous tasks under conditions that require strenuous exertion with limited visibility and the physical ability to utilize all protective turnout equipment including wearing self-contained breathing apparatus. Potential exposure to hazardous or toxic chemicals and gases, extremes in temperature, cramped surroundings, heights and infectious diseases.
