JOB DESCRIPTION:
The work involves general firefighting duties, including combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires, as well as paramedic level emergency medical care in accordance with the Snohomish County Prehospital Treatment Guidelines, Protocols and Procedures.
The primary responsibilities depend upon current assignment, but they will involve the protection of life and property through fire suppression and EMS activities. It will include emergency medical response, identification and treatment of life-threatening illness or injury performed in strict accordance with Snohomish County Protocols. The work requires performance of hazardous or stressful tasks under emergency conditions that may involve strenuous exertion under difficult circumstances. Employees in this classification are required to apply both special firefighting skills and technical paramedical skills acquired by work experience and specialized training/certification programs. A substantial amount of time is spent training, performing inspections and maintaining of stations and equipment. Field performance reviews are required.

The Opportunity: Skagit Valley College (SVC) is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Emergency Medical Technician program. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional teaching skills, enthusiasm for the subject matter, an inclusive and equity-driven approach to teaching and learning, and innovative pedagogy and teaching strategies. Candidates should be able and excited to teach hands-on and lecture-based coursework in the department. The EMT program currently has one of the highest completion rates at the college for its EMT-B Certificate program. The program has a strong network of field trainers from EMS agencies across the region, and these field trainers assist the faculty with providing the students hands-on practice with vitally important skills. The program has a reputation for innovation, and its faculty and field trainers are incorporating greater fidelity in simulation into the curriculum and experimenting with virtual reality to provide a wider array of simulation experiences. The college and program would like to explore the possibility of expanding into offering training to prepare graduates for the Advanced EMT (AEMT) certification. Skagit's EMT program collaborates closely with the Fire Prevention Technology program, especially since all Fire students must complete the EMT course and certification. * Collaborate closely with the Chair of the Fire Protection Technology program to ensure that Fire students receive EMT training that meets their needs-and the needs of fire districts and agencies;
* Work with unit and college leaders to explore expanding offerings and programs, especially by investigating offering education and training for the Advanced EMT (AEMT) certification;
* Coordinate and supervise student internship placements with hospital emergency departments and EMS transport agencies;
* Incorporate an equity-minded approach to teaching and learning;
* Conduct ongoing development, assessment, and revision of curriculum that reflects innovative and inclusive pedagogy and advances in Emergency Medical Services;
* Collaborate with EMT faculty at other colleges in the region on issues of common concern;

Minimum Qualifications:
* Experience teaching, co-teaching, or evaluating in EMT-B courses;
* Associate degree in emergency services or a related field from an accredited college or equivalent education and experience;
* Three years of experience in direct patient care working as an emergency medical technician, paramedic, firefighter, or other first responder;
* Active certification as an EMT instructor from NAEMSE, NAEMT, or a similar approved entity;
* Certified as a Washington State EMS Evaluator (ESE) and have begun a qualified online course to complete the Washington Senior EMS Instructor (SEI) certification. IMPORTANT NOTE: the candidate must complete the SEI certification before teaching courses and beginning the tenure-track position. For candidates who meet most preferred qualifications but are still earning the SEI, the tenure-track position could begin in April 2026 instead of January.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Five (5) years of experience in direct patient care working as an emergency medical technician, paramedic, firefighter, or other first responder;
* Bachelor's degree in emergency services, health sciences, education, or compatible area of study;
* Active certification as Senior EMS Instructor (SEI) in Washington State;
* Current Paramedic certification or Firefighter I certification;
* Experience training or teaching adults;
* Experience teaching online using an industry-standard LMS such as Canvas;
* Two (2) or more years of teaching experience in a higher education or EMS setting.
Salary and Benefits:
* Initial base annual salary placement for 2025-2026 ranges from $75,003 - $100,004 for a standard 172-day contract. The College has a negotiated faculty wage scale in which placement on the salary structure is in accordance with the SVC Federation of Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement.
* A standard 172-day contract is written annually for the period of September to June. Late contracts will be prorated on the basis of work days remaining in the contract year.
* This position is exempt from the overtime pay requirements of The Fair Labor Standards Act.

Every day you will conduct selected diagnostics and procedures, assist with patient transport and lifting, and provide general clerical and cleaning support to the unit.
To be successful in this role you will effectively execute delegated tasks, support unit operations, and contribute to a safe and efficient environment.
Assists in implementing plan of care by performing common clinical procedures and tasks within scope of practice.
Demonstrates competency in the delivery of care and clinical techniques, including (but not limited to):
* Basic Airway Management
CPR
* Vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, oral and rectal temperature, Respirations, and pulse oximetry
* Electrocardiogram
* Point of care testing
Wound care including suture set-up
* Assisting with eye and ear irrigation
* Orthopedic splinting
* Visual acuity
* Suture/staple removal
* Assisting with gastric lavage
* Assisting with activities of daily living
* Peak flow
* Breath alcohol
* Assists with removal of peripheral IV and urinary catheters
* Conducts clinical activities requiring a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy certification, such as blood glucose checks and phlebotomy.
* Decontamination/Washdown with Level C Bio-Haz Suit and powered respirator
* Assists in making observations, gathering data and identifying patient care needs.
* Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
* Assists with patient transport and transfer.
* Assists with cleaning, stocking and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

The Flight Paramedic is responsible for working with the Flight Nurse in the delivery of advanced critical care to patients of Life Flight Network. The Flight Paramedic renders patient care in accordance to the guidelines and protocols of Life Flight Network.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Minimum five years' experience as a Paramedic, preferably in a large metropolitan area. Current licensure and/or certification as listed below:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)

Drivers must have a current, valid Oregon, Idaho, Washington, Hawai'i or Montana driver's license and at least three years of driving experience.
FP-C exam must be taken within one year of hire, certification obtained within two years of hire

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Clinical Quality:
Works with the Flight Nurse in the delivery of age appropriate (Pediatric, Adult, Geriatric) patient care.
Performs the following procedures as necessary: oral intubation, administration of paralytic drugs, needle thoracostomy, intravenous and intraosseous access.
Works with the Flight Nurse as needed in providing accurate and complete patient care documentation per the standards established by LFN.
Assists in providing written and/or verbal patient follow-up to referring hospitals or agencies.
Assists with equipment retrieval and return to appropriate agencies.
Works with the Flight Nurse in cleaning and restocking equipment in a timely manner to place an aircraft back in service as soon as possible.
Works with the Flight Nurse in completing inventories and monthly checks, ordering supplies and maintaining equipment in working order.
Works with the Flight Nurse in day-to-day operations of LFN.
May compile statistical data or work on related projects as assigned by the LFN Director of Clinical Operations.
Safety: The expectations of all customers are understood and exceeded through the provision of quality
services.
Helps to ensure the safe operation of the aircraft for the protection of the patient, crewmembers and personnel on the scene.
Enforces LFN safety policies and assists the pilot in navigation, take off, landing and in-flight procedures.
Business Development: Participates in the development of LFN business and operations plans to meet medical transport service and financial performance goals.
Encourages a favorable public opinion of LFN through personal contact with patients, community agencies and hospitals.
Provides flight education to the public as requested.
