PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

*Provides patient transportation within the Emergency Department and throughout the hospital campus as required.

*Monitors and administers medication, pain relief, and intravenous infusions as approved by the Medical Director.
*Dresses wounds and injuries including wound irrigation and applies bandages as needed.
Provides hospital staff with patient information including condition and treatment.
Provides care in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Documents patient care and related information according to Bryan Medical Center procedures for documentation.
Adheres to established medical protocols and procedures as well as legal guidelines and health and safety standards.
Keeps abreast with new treatment and medical procedures through continuous training.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited Paramedic program required. Current Nebraska EMT-Paramedic certification required. Previous paramedic experience preferred. Active membership on a Rescue or transport service in the state of Nebraska preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
Valid State of Nebraska drivers license required. Verification and maintenance of responsible driving record per facility standards required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

About the role:

You will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, management of donor adverse events, review of laboratory test results, and donor notification of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) works under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager as applicable) for operational guidance and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. The Medical Support Specialist will be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment. The Medical Support Specialist follows guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs and provides center level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS).
How you will contribute :
You will determine donor eligibility; to include, proper management of informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
You will evaluate donor reaction(s), which occurs at the facility as outlined in the SOPs. Follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
You will refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
You will support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
You will manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
You can be a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
What you bring to Takeda:
High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification
Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy
Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
Two years in a clinical or hospital setting

Responsibilities
Responsible for providing high quality pre-hospital advanced life support including assessment, triage, and treatment utilizing standards and guidelines established by Air Methods Community Based Services (CBS) Medical Director(s). You'll be responsible for carrying out the mission and goals of Air Methods CBS assuring that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:
• Provides pre-hospital advanced life support care from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation.
• Practices within his/her scope of practice as defined by the states regulating each base and Air Methods CBS. Maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences. Communicates educational needs to the Medical Base Supervisor and Medical Education Coordinator.
• Maintains documentation of required licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures. Attends minimum of six educational programs per year pertinent to his/her practice.
• Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used by Air Methods CBS. Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to
ensure repair of equipment as directed. Maintains adequate supplies onboard aircraft to deliver patient care. Keeps aircraft clean and orderly to insure rapid response to all transport requests.
• Participates in patient and referring institution follow-up and planned outreach marketing and education activities.
• Functions as a medical flight member by attending pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and completes necessary documentation. Assists in pre-mission liftoff checklist and assists pilot as requested, i.e., radio, navigational, and visual observation activities. Complies with safety standards to assure safety of self, medical personnel, patient, and equipment.
Conducts aircraft safety briefings as needed.
• Serves as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel when transporting specialty patients by helicopter. Performs advanced skills and procedures as approved by Air Methods CBS Medical Director(s).
• Serves as a role model, educator and clinical resource. Participates regularly in departmental activities, projects and committees (to include research and publishing opportunities). A Brief Overview

Ensures equipment is in good working order. • Maintains all transport equipment in a state of mission readiness by checking all equipment at the beginning of each shift, noting any discrepancies and ensuring steps toward resolution. • Cleans equipment and restocks bags after a transport. • Demonstrates knowledge of transport equipment location, function and restocking procedures. Communicates the plan to the receiving nurse prior to arrival at Children's Hospital or receiving facility.
Implements and evaluates actions in accordance with the individualized patient/family plan of care and patient condition/needs. • Incorporates critical thinking into the delivery of clinical skills and in analyzing patient response to orders, tests, labs, medications, and treatments. • Demonstrates clinical competence in administering interventions according to identified standards and age specific needs. • During the transport process, prioritizes and organizes care based on patient acuity, time limitations and consultation with transport partner and/or medical control physician. Initiates action to prevent current or potential risk to a patient in an emergency situation.

The Clinic EMT is responsible for providing direct patient care and clinical support under the supervision of our family physicians and mid-level practitioners. You will apply your core EMT skills to a clinic setting, handling patient intake, and ensuring a calm and confident response to any on-site medical emergencies. This role offers a predictable schedule without the typical stresses of field EMS, allowing you to focus on building lasting relationships with patients and our team.

Utilizes the Out-of-hospital trauma triage destination decision protocol.
Performs all First Responder Level, EMT-Basic Level and EMT-Intermediate level emergency medical skills.
Performs the EMT-Paramedic level skills identified in the United States D.O.T. EMT-P curriculum, as well as Endotracheal intubation; Pharmacological intervention; Maintenance and monitoring of intravenous infusion of blood and blood products; Tension Pneumothorax; Chest decompression; Cricothyrotomy and transtracheal insufflation; Gastric tube insertion; Nasogastric tube insertion; Rotating tourniquets; Urinary catheterization; and Intraossseous infusion.
Provides pre-hospital stabilization of the severely injured patient consisting of assessment, extrication, initiation of resuscitation, and rapid transportation to the closest appropriate hospital.
Provides medical services at the scene of an emergency, during transportation to a hospital, while in the hospital emergency department, until patient care is directly assumed by a physician or by authorized hospital personnel or during transfer from one medical care facility to another or to a private home.

3. Responsible for maintaining ambulance in proper working condition.
Assures that the ambulances are stocked and ready at all times.
Performs routine vehicle, equipment and supply checklists at the beginning of each shift, maintain supply levels in each unit, when necessary.

4. Communicates effectively.
Conveys report on patient status and ETA in a clear, concise manner.
Communicates and collaborates effectively with other health team members.

A Brief Overview
Provides high quality, individualized, family centered care to pediatric patients ranging from extreme prematurity through adolescence in the critical care transport environment. Care and transport of the critically ill patient is supported through the use of the EMT scope of practice in accordance with the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) standards and hospital policies and procedures.
