Hourly Wage: $33.50 an hour
Providing both emergency and non-emergency transport of patients. Empress Paramedics will collaborate with their direct supervisors, Municipal and County Fire, Police departments as well as other medical staff, patients, and family members to provide the highest level of patient care and customer service. At the direction of the Operations Department, the Paramedic will perform or assist with a wide variety of patient care activities in both the pre-hospital and hospital setting. The Paramedic is expected to provide supportive and definitive care to the patient of groups or group of patients. The Paramedic will provide care in the emergency setting as well as care to the patients during inter-facility transportation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide quality patient care utilizing thorough knowledge and appropriate administration of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Education for Pre-Hospital Professionals (PEEP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Assess and treat with appropriate techniques (resources and equipment), any medical or trauma situation while maintaining the highest standard of patient care and professionalism.
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care within the scope of established treatment protocols and the current standard of care.
Provides accurate and pertinent written documentation of all patient care and EMS responses.
Completes ALL required Empress and NYS paperwork.
Maintains all patient care equipment, vehicles, supplies, daily logs and patient care record as directed by the company.
Operates Empress Vehicles and equipment as required, according to company policy.
Maintains a safe and orderly work environment and promotes safe work practices for all employees.
Reports to work on time and understands that due to the nature of EMS, the EMT's assigned shift may exceed the assigned time for the end of the shift. Mandatory overtime may be assigned.
Work schedules encompass a variety of shifts. Paramedics may be required, as part of his/her normal duties, to work ANY of the shifts available.
Follows all Empress Policies and Procedures.
Attends mandatory continuing medical education, updates and staff meetings as required by Empress.
Complies with the established guidelines for uniform dress and standard equipment regulations.
Assist in the provision of public information and educational programs designed to promote EMT-Paramedics and the services offered by Empress, to the community and allied EMS agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current New York State Certification (EMT-P) and current AHA, (CPR, PALS, ACLS) Certification.
A valid Driver's License- Driving record must meet company requirements.
Satisfactorily completes all aspects of the pre-employment process administered by and /or for Empress Ambulance Service, LLC. inclusive of drug screening/background check and physical agility test (CPAT).
Must be at least 19 years of age.
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
National Registry Certification as a Paramedic.
Westchester REMAC Certification.
Hudson Valley REMAC Certification.
NYC REMAC Certification (If working in the Montefiore Division).
Work Environment:
Works outdoors and indoors with occasional exposure to hazardous conditions and to blood/body fluids, requires respirator use, fumes/odors, extended day, and temperature changes. Frequently works with others, face-to-face contact with others with exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment. Performs shift work and performs duties frequently in a mobile environment and in confined areas.
Physical Requirements:
The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; step, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Overview

Perform other duties as assigned and/or reassigned as directed/required by the Medical Director.
Ensure each staff member and camper has a health history and physical examination form on file.
Provide lists to the office of missing information from health histories for camp staff to use during check in procedures.
Check in camper and staff medication upon arrival as per New York State Department of Health procedures.
Follow appropriate medical routines, including record keeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
Other Job Duties:
Support the camp leadership to maintain a safe working environment.
Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

Job Description
Hyperbaric technologists (HBO Tech) have direct interaction with patients and oversee their care process every day. HBOT care is daily, so patients develop strong bonds with our staff, especially the HBO Techs - a relationship that is developed through trust and confidence in the expertise of each technologist. HMS is seeking Paramedics, EMTs, experienced Hyperbaric Technologists, and Certified Hyperbaric Technologists (CHT). Experience preferred, but will train non-experienced candidates who demonstrate thoughtful attention to detail, and who take ownership of process and practice operations. Candidate must be willing to work in a collaborative, team environment. This position will work closely with clinical and administrative staff at both this office, as well as with team members of other HMS locations.
Candidate Responsibilities and Expectations:
Prepare for each HBOT session to ensure that each patient has safe and comfortable treatment experience
Reinforce patient education for hyperbaric therapy
Maintain complete and accurate patient treatment documentation
Perform hyperbaric chamber operations and system maintenance as required, and is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chambers and related support systems

Qualifications:

The crew member who acts as the patient care attendant is responsible for all aspects of patient care, beginning with preparation of the patient compartment of the ambulance at the start of the shift.
The duties of the crew include but are not limited to:
Arrival for tour of duty
:
The crew must arrive on time, in proper uniform, neat and clean and in possession of a New York State Emergency Medical Technician Certificate. Personal patient care equipment when present, must be in good working order and clean. Persons who do not meet these criteria will not be allowed to start work.
Prior to departing the garage ‑ the crew must
:
Perform a visual inspection of the patient compartment, inside and out, for cleanliness and damage.
Ensure access to and egress from the patient compartment via the rear and side doors.
Clean the patient compartment and equipment as necessary
Complete the inventory check sheet (Part 800 list).
Replace damaged or missing items.
Present the signed, dated check‑out sheet to the supervisor.
The crew is responsible to ensure that the ambulance is at all times in compliance with Sections 800.22, 800.23 and 800.24 of the New York State Department of Health regulations and applicable OSHA regulations. All patient care equipment must be clean and sanitary (except when sterile is required) and all equipment must function properly. Failure to carry out this responsibility will result in disciplinary action.
During the tour of duty ‑ the attendant must
:
Respond to all calls as directed by the dispatcher.
Treat all patients in accordance with New York State Basic Life Support Protocols and applicable regional and local ALS protocols.
Secure pertinent information and records from the discharge clerk or RN at the transferring facility.
Introduce themselves to the patient and call the patient by proper name e.g., Mrs. or Mr.
Tell the patient what is happening and where the patient is going.
Transport all patients on the stretcher.
Carry all patients to and from the ambulance ‑ none are to walk.
Carefully monitor all patients during transport.
Record changes in patient's condition during transport.
Alter patient care in accordance with changes in the patient's condition.
Take all patients to their assigned room at a medical facility or to their apartment on discharge.
Patients are never to be left at the door.
Properly complete the patient care record.
Properly complete all company paperwork and obtain all necessary signatures for billing purposes.
Report with the patient and records to the appropriate person at the receiving facility.
Maintain professional demeanor and courteous interaction with all medical facility staff.
Replace equipment in the ambulance as necessary to maintain compliance with State regulations and policy.
Return the patient compartment to a condition of readiness for the next call.
Notify dispatch of any change in patient's destination.
Quality patient care is the primary goal of our company. All PCRs are subject to retrospective review by our Quality Assurance manager. Deficiencies in recording or in patient care will be promptly addressed in accordance with our current company Quality Assurance policy.
State Inspections
:
Ambulances are subject to inspection by representatives of the State EMS office without advance notice. Inspectors will show proper identification and conduct inspections on the spot.
In the event of an inspection, the crew must notify the dispatcher immediately, then cooperate fully with the inspector. As requested by the inspector, the crew will present or demonstrate any or all equipment on the ambulance.
At the completion of the inspection, the inspector will present the crew with a copy of the inspection sheet that will be turned over to the supervisor at the end of the shift. The crew will promptly notify the dispatcher of the results of the inspection.
In the event a violation notice is issued, the crew must contact a supervisor prior to accepting another patient. The supervisor will decide the course of action.
Our policies and procedures are geared toward strict compliance with the New York State Department of Health regulations. In the event a violation results from an administrative shortcoming, management will accept responsibility and promptly correct the procedure. In the event a violation results from failure on the part of the attendant, disciplinary action will be taken.
End of tour
:
The crew must return the ambulance to the garage, secure the ambulance and equipment as required, replace all supplies used during the tour and then report to the supervisor. All paperwork as well as a report of any problems encountered during the tour will be reported to the supervisor.
The foregoing delineates primary responsibilities but is not intended to eliminate creative effort on the part of our employees. Additional Responsibilities:
Completes required in service training.
Maintains state and local certification.

Performs ALS patient care in accordance with regional and state protocols.
Records patient care on proper forms.
