Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Safely and efficiently operates the ground ambulance obeying all driving laws.
Conducts an inspection of the assigned ambulance at the beginning of each shift to ensure the ambulance is ready and safe for use.
As part of the programs safety management system, provides feedback and participates in program safety initiatives.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Ensures cleanliness and appropriate par levels of supplies in transport vehicle(s).
Establishes and maintains professional radio communications with MedSTAR and other agencies, adhering to appropriate FCC protocols.
Initiates department standing orders in appropriate patients. Performs basic airway techniques including oxygen therapy. May perform bag-mask ventilation according to established departmental protocols in emergency situations.
Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment of caring for patients and families. Provides basic patient comfort measures during procedures. When necessary, provides environmental support to expedite timely patient admission or transfer. Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve the environment of care.
Participates in MedSTAR Transport safety program. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED required
Successful completion of an approved EMT course required
Completion of an approved emergency vehicle driving course prior to release from orientation required
Experience

The incumbent may manage emotionally disturbed, alcohol and drug intoxicated, and unruly patients.
Incumbent performs as a firefighter, responding to all conditions and life-hazards, both known and unknown, with a minimal response time. Upon arrival at an emergency incident, the incumbent will relay conditions, life-hazards, and exposures to commanding officers. As a Firefighter Paramedic the incumbent will examine structures for signs of fire extension or other dangers and determine the safest evacuation route for occupants. The incumbent will make forcible entries, make openings for ventilation, perform overhaul operations, deploy hose lines, and operate hydrant systems. Firefighter Paramedics drive and operate fire suppression apparatus of significant complexity, including pumps, aerial ladder trucks, and rescue squads. Firefighter Paramedics may extricate injured and/or entrapped patients by safely employing rescue techniques, which include various extrication devices. Additionally, they will use power tools, saws, and ventilation fans.
Qualifications and Education
Candidates must successfully pass and complete the DC Fire and EMS Department's Recruit Training Course and pass all probationary requirements. Candidates will demonstrate competence providing pre-hospital emergency care through various mechanisms, including field training.

Completion of the PHTLS or ITLS course required in subparagraph C above does not satisfy this requirement. A 63-hour (TCCC) course is required prior to deployment.
Must possess the following:
A minimum of three (3) years of pre-hospital emergency medical services experience at the AEMT or paramedic level. While the Government may accept military service as a medical provider (including special operations units) to satisfy this requirement, the Government will not accept service in which a non-medical provider (infantryman, vehicle operator, clerk, etc.) provides medical first response as an ancillary duty in satisfaction of this requirement. Work experience in a hospital or clinic setting does not satisfy this requirement.

The Emergency Department (ED) Communications Paramedic has an in-depth knowledge of ED operations, patient flow and the pre-hospital system. Ensures that all incoming patient information is documented per policy and incorporated into patients' electronic medical records. Emergency Department Communications Paramedic Responsibilities:
• Obtains the appropriate information from incoming EMS units including, but not limited to, callers name/title, unit number, patient history, initial patient assessment, BLS measures provided, ALS measures provided and ETA.
• Immediately notifies the ED Charge Physician for further direction when the EMS personnel request orders not included in the EMS Manual, the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the particular department are not readily available or when the communications paramedic believes it is necessary
• Documents patient information on Inova Health System's Fairfax Hospital communications record.
• Files completed ED to ED Transfer QI sheets in the QI file in the communications room and logs information into the computer database with the transfer data.

About the Role:
Guardian is seeking a certified Paramedic to join our team of professionals to provide interfacility patient transport and medical care.
When released by our medical director you will be caring for basic, ALS, and critically ill patients as defined by the state of Virginia and our advanced medical protocols. We carry HT70 ventilators for patient's 5-100 kg, IV pumps, and supportive pharmaceuticals for RSI and sedation.
