The Paramedic provides patient care in both the emergency and non-emergency environment. Ensures compliance with all State of Georgia EMS rules and regulations. Checks and maintains all ambulance equipment and vehicle to insure it is clean and in proper working condition. Maintains all company required licenses and certifications for an EMT-P position. The purpose of this position is to safely operate an ambulance and its equipment, survey emergency scenes safely, coordinate with additional agencies for best possible treatment plan for the patient in medical/trauma situations. Safely work in inclement weather or on dangerous roadways. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. * Responds to the emergencies safely and provide basic life support to the victims before they are transported to the hospital. * Transports patients to local medical facilities, maintaining contact with medical staff while in transport and assuring care of patient. * Provides medical aid such as AED, CPR, prevent spinal damage, ventilation, control severe bleeding, prevent shock, bandaging wounds, etc., to stabilize their condition. * Ensures equipment and ambulance interior is always clean and check and replace used and damaged supplies. * Prepares a patient care report and takes notes of the medical treatment given to them. * Restocks supplies in the ambulance. * Attend continuing education as required by medical control, employers, certifying or licensing agencies. * Performs related work as assigned. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: * Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one (1) year of college. * Over six months and up to and including one year of related experience. * Performs very heavy work that involves exerting more than 120 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, loading and unloading, moving, lifting, fabricating and installing very large or very heavy equipment. * South Carolina State EMT Certification. * National Registry of EMT Certification. * Basic Life Support Certification. * Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for dedicated Paramedics within the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department. This position is responsible for administering appropriate emergency medical treatment at the Paramedic level to patients. MAJOR DUTIES Responds to calls for assistance involving emergency medical situations, including cardiac problems, breathing difficulties, childbirth, strokes, seizures, sports and automobile accidents, and other traumatic and medical incidents. Obtains medical histories and current event information; determines appropriate aid and response guidelines. Provides general medical care and treatment at the Paramedic Georgia scope of practice-level to patients in an emergency situation as defined by state and local regulations. Communicates with medical personnel via 2-way radio and telephone regarding injured persons' condition, vitals, and other relevant treatment information. Transports patients in an ambulance. Completes required patient reports prior to the end of shift. Replaces, cleans, and resets equipment and supplies and conducts ambulance check-off at start of shift. Assists and/or participates in training exercises and continuing education to maintain certification. Attends public functions to provide emergency medical response as needed. Provides public safety demonstrations and screenings. Attends mandatory classes as deemed by the department. Subject to recall and mandatory overtime. May be required to act as Medical Incident Command on mass casualty scenes or disasters in the absence of a supervisor, Deputy Director or Director. Performs related duties. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects (>100 lbs.), climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes sense of smell. The work is typically performed in an office, in a very noisy place, or outdoors occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY This position has functional supervision over assigned personnel within the EMS department including EMT, EMT-I and EMT-A. WORK SCHEDULE, SALARY AND BENEFITS Available full-time shift options may include: Two 24-hour shifts for 48 hours weekly Two 16-hour shifts and one 8-hour shift per week for a total of 40 hours/week.
