Firefighter Paramedics are assigned to one of thirty-three fire houses throughout the District of Columbia. Emergency Medical Technician 2 Job Responsibilities: Documents all required fields in medical records, computer entries and charges. Applies orthopedic splinting devices. Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment. Assists with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical (per policy of Operating Unit). Performs 12 lead ECG and places patients on continuous cardiac monitoring. Performs patient phlebotomy following department/facility policies and procedures. Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to assist with optimum care. May perform additional duties as assigned. Emergency Medical Technician Requirements: Experience: 1 year of EMT-B experience Education: High School Diploma or GED Certification: BLS and EMT-B; must either be active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or possess a current Virginia EMT License/Certification Training: Must be available for six (6) weeks of paid training, consisting of, Virtual modules Classroom-style sessions: 8AM - 4:30PM On-unit training with department hired into (times TBD) Special Skills: Able to read, write, speak and understand English.
