This entry-level classification participates in a formal academic and physical fitness training program. Firefighter Recruits must successfully complete the Recruit Academy as prescribed by the Santa Monica Fire Department in order to move to the Firefighter classification.

Representative Duties
Participates in a rigorous academic and physical training program as prescribed by the Santa Monica Fire Department.
Responds to simulated fire alarms.

Performs vehicle and accident extrication during training evolutions.

Supervision
Receives direct supervision from a Battalion Chief, or designee, who makes detailed work assignments, frequently reviews work in progress, and evaluates assigned tasks and work. Exercises no supervision over staff.
Working Conditions
Work is performed both inside and outside in seasonal climate and weather conditions. Elevated heights, slippery surfaces, oily conditions, dust, dirt, smoke, heat, hazardous substances, chemicals, biohazards, and odors are conditions frequently encountered. Physical demands include heavy lifting and carrying of fire equipment while working in required protective clothing and SCBA. Some tasks may require the use of respiratory protection. Maintaining a clean-shaven face in areas that interact with the respiratory protection seals is required. Work requires manual dexterity to assemble fittings and perform hose and ladder placement evolutions. Bending, stooping, running, squatting, pulling and climbing are also required.

Under the direction of the Emergency Department director manager, charge nurse, and staff nurses this position requires the ability to be self-directed and encompasses providing direct supportive care to patients by performing designated and/or ordered interventions and procedures within the scope of practice. Additionally, this position incorporates departmental readiness duties including but not limited to stocking, QI testing, verification of operational patient care apparatuses (Suction, O2, etc.).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience: The emergency room (ED) technician is an individual with training and/or experience in the area of unlicensed assistive caregiver in the emergency room environment.
Knowledge and Skills: Able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Able to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing, prioritizing, and completing work assignments and other duties as assigned. Above average computer skills.
License and Certifications: Certification as an emergency medical technician (EMT), nursing assistant (CNA), or medical assistant (CMA) is required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS card is required. CPI required within six months of hire or transfer.
Equipment: Computer, Monitoring Equipment, POC Testing Equipment.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform the essential physical requirements of the job.
PAY RANGE
$21.00 - $29.12

Job Summary
Paramedics provide emergent and non-emergent medical care to patients being transported by PRN Ambulance. Paramedics for PRN travel to partner facilities, patient homes, and/or events requiring services. In partnership with an EMT or other qualified clinicians, PRN Paramedics provide quality care to the treatment level required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Respond to BLS, ALS, and CCT emergent and non-emergent transports and scene calls
Provide high quality, routine and emergent basic and advanced life support, in accordance with CA Title 22, local scope of practice and PRN policy
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Graduate of an accredited Paramedic program
Must be able to communicate and understand English, verbally and written
Two (2) or more years of driving experience
Must possess or receive, and maintain, current certification/licensure in the following:
Current and valid California driver's license
EMT-P certification
CPR through the American Heart Association (instructor-based with AED)
PALS (American Heart Association)
ACLS (American Heart Association)
California Ambulance Driver Certificate (DL 61)
DL51 (Medical Examiners Certificate)
LADOT Ambulance Driver Permit
Must be current in local, state and federally mandated training
Must maintain current industry standards through continuing education
