As a Paramedic at Johnson County MED-ACT, you will play a critical role in delivering life-saving care to our community members during their most challenging moments. You will be responsible for responding to emergency calls, providing advanced medical treatment, and ensuring the safe transportation of patients to medical facilities. Schedule: Modified Berkley, Shift Work of 24-Hour Shifts. Schedule may vary. We are accepting applications through February 3rd, 2026, for our next Clinician Academy. That academy has a start date of March 30 th , 2026. Applicants must be KS licensed by Friday, March 27 th , 2026, at noon. If not licensed by that date, candidates must provide MED-ACT with proof of application to the Kansas Board of EMS, along with a valid out-of-state license and/or National Registry certification. Job Description Key Responsibilities: Safely and expeditiously responds to emergency calls in various out of hospital settings, including interfacility patient transfers. Maintains scene safety; protects responders, patients, and the public; assumes personal risk. Maintains personal, vehicle and equipment readiness for effective prehospital medical response. Assesses patient conditions and compassionately administers medical care and treatment in accordance with established protocols. Proficiently performs clinical skills. Operates and maintains emergency medical equipment and vehicles. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and first responders at the scene and in the hospital. Conducts and participates in training exercises. Ensures thorough, accurate and timely documentation of patient care. Returns to a state of readiness quickly after calls. Maintains patient confidentiality and professionalism. Participates in ongoing training and education to stay current with industry standards. Functions effectively as a member of a team. Job Requirements Minimum Job Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent Current Paramedic certification in the state of Kansas, or eligible for reciprocity. National Registry is optional. Working twenty-four (24) hour shifts and up to thirty-six (36) hours, including weekends and holidays. On-call/standby work is also required. Biennial Kansas Paramedic recertification at the employee's expense. A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record Two (2) years of experience providing advanced life support prehospital care is preferred. Johnson County government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency. Applicant must submit to and pass a pre-employment post-offer drug screen and pass a physical ability assessment prior to employment. Uniformed MED-ACT employees are held to standards as dictated by Department Policy 501 Appearance Standards. Compliance with these standards is expected as a condition of employment. Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions: Ability to see and hear sufficiently for accurate perception of patient condition, including the ability to differentiate fine distinctions in appearance and sound. Excessive standing and/or walking: 40% of the time Exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes and/or chemicals, heights, loud noises Successful completion of annual physical ability test, ability to lift 230 pounds with assistance, and performing CPR is required. Ability to work and complete duties while wearing an OSHA Level C chemical and biological PPE including protective clothing, powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) and chemical protective boots. NFPA 472 Haz-Mat Awareness Level, OSHA training, NIMS 100, 200 700 and 800 are required to be obtained in-house within one (1) year of employment. NFPA 472 Haz-Mat Operations Level, NFPA 473 Medical Response to Haz-Mat Incidents, Disaster Medical Specialist and Tactical Medicine Certification preferred. Within sixty (60) days of hire, employees (select DHE and EMS positions) must produce proof of immunization, proof of immunity, proof that immunization is medically contraindicated, submit a written objection to immunization based upon a sincerely held religious belief, or receive vaccination for the following: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR); Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Acellular Pertussis (TDAP); and Varicella (Chickenpox.) Compensation: The 2026 hourly pay rate for this position is $20.63-$30.45, which calculates to an annual salary in the range of $68,657-$101,338, commensurate with experience. There is built-in overtime inherent to our 24-hour shift schedule, and on average, our full-time employees work 56 hours per week. Our financial compensation package progresses through a 16-step pay plan so that operational employees can clearly predict how their salaries will advance over time.
