    The Paramedic Specialist (PS) provides essential clinical care under the direction of a physician or APP, supporting the patient journey from intake through treatment. This role involves direct patient care, medication administration, patient education, application of DME/casting, and procedural support as permitted by the Iowa Department of Public Health. The PS works collaboratively with physicians, APPs, and the broader clinical team to ensure exceptional, efficient, and safe care delivery. Key Responsibilities: • Direct patients to exam rooms and obtain vital signs, height/weight, and medical history. • Access and upload diagnostic images (X-rays, CTs, MRIs). • Prepare patients for procedures and assist physicians/APPs during clinical treatments and injections. • Administer medications via all approved routes per provider orders. • Initiate and discontinue IV access as ordered. • Assist in procedural sedation: assess, monitor, and recover patients post-sedation. • Apply and remove splints, casts, sutures, staples, Steri-Strips, dressings, and bone stimulators. • Manage durable medical equipment (DME) exchanges and returns. • Collect specimens, draw labs, complete documentation, and transport to the appropriate lab. • Prepare instruments/equipment for autoclave sterilization. • Perform accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR); complete chart prep using appropriate EMR protocols. • Contact patients pre-visit to gather health history or obtain imaging/results. • Schedule or reschedule appointments and coordinate follow-ups. • Train and mentor new employees and students through shadowing, feedback, and onboarding support. • Maintain compliance with attendance and confidentiality policies. • Perform additional clinical or administrative duties as assigned Requirements • Current licensure as a Paramedic Specialist through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). • Current certifications in: Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), if involved in pediatric sedation Adult & Child Mandatory Reporter (Iowa requirement) • Completion of all mandatory Iowa Ortho training and education programs on time. • Clear and professional communication skills. • Ability to effectively communicate in person and by phone. • Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving abilities in fast-paced or high-stress environments. • Independent work capability combined with collaborative team orientation. • Ability to read and interpret clinical orders, safety procedures, and documentation standards. • Ability to provide transportation & travel between clinical sites as needed. • Proficiency in EMR systems and accurate charting. • Commitment to providing excellent care and aligning with Iowa Ortho's mission of delivering the best care to every patient. • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
