You will refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
You will support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
You will manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
You can be a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.

OBJECTIVE:
Under direct supervision of the Fire Lieutenant, this position will perform work combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires and providing emergency medical services (EMS), including warm zone rescue task force (RTF) response to protect life and property. A Firefighter/Paramedicwill attend company training sessions as ordered by the company officers and medical control to continuously update their knowledge and skills in suppression, prevention, and emergency medical care. Work also involves routine maintenance of Fire Department equipment, apparatus, quarters, and driving equipment when specifically assigned.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES
* Connects appropriate fittings and hose to fire hydrants to establish a water supply, including laying supply/attack lines.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
LATERAL TRANSFER:
* For all new employees hired after January 1, 2023, the city may grant an initial pay rate on any step of the wage table to a maximum of the >/= 4-year step and vacation to the 4-year step. Such placement shall not affect the new employee's seniority for any purpose.
* The actual amount of full-time career fire service time credited for purposes of determining wage rate and vacation accrual placement shall be reviewed by a Local 580 representative. The Fire Chief has final determination on service time credited. Credited service shall be considered in only full-year service-time increments. The credited service-time determination made by the Chief shall be documented, along with the determined wage rate and vacation accrual step, and issued to the employee.
* Employees hired under the terms and conditions of a lateral transfer shall move through the wage and vacation table based on the combination of the full years of service recognized and credited by the City, in the City's discretion (up to the maximum of four years), and the employee's actual full-time fire service employment for the City of Janesville.

Recruit Academy:
New Hires must complete the recruit academy (including swim test).
Probationary Period:

Work Schedule
Attendance is required for a 24-hour shift schedule based on a 56-hour workweek.
Paramedic Status:
Firefighter/Paramedics shall complete and maintain minimum requirements up to and including Firefighter II, ACLS-PALS-BLS re-certification every two years, and attend EMS refresher training to obtain the minimum number of hours determined by the State of Wisconsin for re-licensure of EMT-Paramedic/EMT license. Firefighter/EMT-Paramedics are appointed by the Chief.
It is a condition of employment that new hires, if not hired with Paramedic training, may be assigned to begin training at the discretion of the City. Such new hires will be required to proceed with all necessary training to become Firefighter/Paramedics as positions are opened. Until required to proceed with paramedic training, such new hires will be classed as Firefighters. Once so required, such new hires must promptly proceed to become Firefighter/Paramedics and then remain qualified and active as Firefighter/Paramedics or be terminated unless released as outlined in the contract between the City of Janesville and Local #580 (Article XXVIII - Paramedics).
Firefighter/Paramedics -shall be subject to ongoing, periodic performance evaluations per established department policy and contract guidelines.

Motor vehicles, ambulances, fire apparatus, fire pumps, hoses, ladders, first aid equipment, and other standard firefighting equipment. Personal protective equipment. Basic office equipment, including but not limited to department computers, copiers, and cellular communications equipment. Basic tools and equipment necessary to perform job tasks and functions, including but not limited to 2-way radios, mobile data terminal, and other simple tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL FACTORS:

* Climbing at least six flights of stairs or walking a similarly strenuous distance and incline in areas of the city without tall buildings while wearing PPE and SCBA, commonly weighing 40-50 lbs. and carrying equipment/tools weighing an additional 20-40 lbs.
* Wearing PPE and SCBA that is encapsulating and insulated, which will result in significant fluid loss that frequently progresses to clinical dehydration and can elevate core temperature to levels exceeding 102.2°F.
* Working alone while wearing PPE and SCBA, searching, finding, and rescue-dragging or carrying victims ranging from newborns to adults weighing over 165 lbs. to safety despite hazardous conditions and low visibility.
* While wearing PPE and SCBA, advancing water-filled hose lines up to 1 ¾" in diameter from the fire apparatus to occupancy (approximately 150ft), which can involve negotiating multiple flights of stairs, ladders, and other obstacles.
* While wearing PPE and SCBA, climbing ladders, operating from heights, walking or crawling in the dark along narrow and uneven surfaces that might be wet or icy, and operating in proximity to electrical power lines or other hazards.
* Unpredictable, prolonged periods of extreme physical exertion as required by emergency operations without the benefit of a warm-up period, scheduled rest periods, meals, access to medication(s), or hydration.
* Critical, time-sensitive, complex problem-solving during physical exertion in stressful, hazardous environments, including hot, dark, tightly enclosed spaces, that is further aggravated by fatigue, flashing lights, sirens, and other distractions.
* Functioning as an integral component of a team, where sudden incapacitation of a member can result in mission failure or risk of injury or death to members of the public or other team members.

FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC The City of Kaukauna is seeking candidates for Firefighter/Paramedic. The Firefighter/Paramedic is responsible for fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire inspection, vehicle and fire station maintenance, hazardous material response, and rescue operations. The Firefighter/Paramedic is assigned to work rotating 24-hour shifts and will respond to fire scenes, emergency medical calls, as well as other emergencies. The Firefighter/Paramedic position reports to the Fire Captain. The City of Kaukauna provides both Fire and Rescue (EMS) services to Kaukauna and neighboring communities as outlined in the MABAS mutual aid system.
The City of Kaukauna Fire Department is a Full-time Career Department with 21 members, all cross-trained as paramedics and firefighters to our high standards. The Kaukauna Fire Department is committed to providing a safe and healthy community for both citizens and businesses by minimizing fire loss through sound fire prevention efforts, competent suppression techniques, and efficient emergency medical care.

This position requires an 18-month probationary period.

Candidates must have the ability to meet medical standards defined in the most current version of National Fire Protection Association Standard 1582 - Standard of Medical Requirements for Firefighters and Information for Fire Department Physicians and be able to meet the requirements of Wisconsin SPS 330.
Performance of essential tasks associated with responding to fire alarms and other calls for assistance requires, under emergency conditions:
Ability to lift heavy objects of up to 50-100 pounds unassisted and larger objects with assistance.
Capacities to position, raise, climb, and work from ladders.
Ability to use various hand tools and powered equipment requiring a moderate to high degree of physical strength, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity.
Ability to pull and advance empty and water filled firefighting hose lines of various sizes.
Capacity to work in full protective firefighting equipment.

Position Overview
The purpose of this position is to provide technical assistance and supportive patient care to meet the needs of individual patients throughout assigned areas.
Essential Job Functions
Collect, report, and document clinical data. Take vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and collect specimens
Collect laboratory samples and perform lab testing in accordance with established policies and procedures, as well as COLA and CLIA regulations
Assist with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee as indicated by the patient's plan of care
Provide for superficial wound care
Provide for patient safety related to age and condition
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times
Provide and maintain a clean, safe environment and perform and/or assist others to perform proper aseptic technique, isolation procedures, and infection control measures
Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge of the patient
Other Job Functions
Prepare patients and chaperone during examinations/procedures or assists with other patient treatments
Maintain patient care areas with appropriate supplies
Assist with patient restraints and maintain precautions; collect, report and document data related to patient needs/emergencies and unusual patient and family behavior
Travel to all facility locations as required
Attend staff meetings or other company sponsored or mandated meetings as required
Perform additional duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED, required and completion of one of the following:
Completion of Medical Corpsman program and one year of applicable experience (OR)
Completion of EMT-P (Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic), AEMT (Advanced-EMT), Licensed Paramedic (LP) course/program and one year of applicable experience (OR)
Completion of EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician-Basic) and 1+ years of emergency room experience as an ER Technician or hospital equivalent experience [Oklahoma, North TX, Wisconsin & Pennsylvania markets only] (OR)
Completion of the first year of education and current enrollment in an accredited School of Nursing and one year of applicable experience (OR)
3+ years of emergency room experience as an ER Technician [2+ years in Pittsburgh market only] (OR)
3+ years as a CNA with relevant hospital experience (Wisconsin market only)
3+ years as a Certified Anesthesia Tech/OR Tech experience (Wisconsin market only)
Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross, required
Current ACLS/ALS certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required in most markets.
Exceptions where it is strongly preferred include Pittsburgh, Oklahoma, El Paso, DFW, and Central PA (WellSpan Hospitals)
Wisconsin (required only for EMT-P roles).
Current PALS certifications through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross, strongly preferred
Experience with IV start, phlebotomy, and initiation of EKG, strongly preferred

You will refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
You will support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
You will manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
You can be a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
