In 1974, The Junior League of Fort Worth formed the Tarrant County Child Abuse Task Force in response to the growing problem of child abuse and neglect in our community.
The Parenting Guidance Center, as it was then called, became a reality in 1975 and has continued to provide services to parents, caregivers, children, families and people in need.
In 1980, The Parenting Center became a partner agency of the United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County.
The core services of the Student Parent Center emerged as part of the Women's Resource Center in the mid 1980's.
In 1986, PEAK Parent Center was awarded the grant to serve as the Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) for the State of Colorado.
Since its founding in 1986, PEAK has become a beacon of hope for families of children with disabilities.
Congress increased funding for Head Start nationwide Child-Parent Centers Expands: 1993 - served 1,128 children in 28 centers.
The Head Start Outcomes Framework was published in 2003 and CPC commits to developing its own classroom curriculum, Languages of Learning, inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
Until her retirement in 2013, she devoted her entire career to advocacy for the educational and childcare needs of parents and the expansion of access to higher education as a route out of poverty for low-income families.
