We are seeking a full time Home Visitor to provide Parent Education to at risk families in Hamilton County, specifically referred through the Department of Jobs and Family Services.
Through this program, the Parent Educators work to assist families identified as high risk by the County in an effort to target specific and individualized parenting skills. These services are tailored to each family and designed to increase protective factors and improve parenting skills in families.
Primary job responsibilities include:
Provide weekly individual, family and group mental health Medicaid billable and case management services to high risk families.
The focus of this service is on providing parents and caregivers with knowledge, modeling, and in-home mental health services that assist them with managing the mental health needs of the children living in their home or currently in out of home care.
Services are provided primarily in the parent/caregiver’s home setting and also in the community. Create and maintain individual family goals through participation of the parents and County JFS worker. Create Individual Treatment Plans (ITPs) with clients and their families, where applicable.
Link clients with community resources and effectively collaborate with school or community professionals, DJFS staff and other service providers.

ABOUT THE HIPPY PROGRAM
HIPPY is a structured, home-based model focused on parent-child centered learning designed to remove barriers and to reach low income families with limited education to become their child's first teacher. Through HIPPY, parents not only become actively involved in the lives of their children, but they also assist their children to reach their full potential as they prepare to enter school.
As a School Readiness Parent Educator you will supply weekly HIPPY activity packets and follow the program method of instruction with the parent or caregiver that is designed to strengthen their children's cognitive skills, early literacy skills, social/emotional and physical development.
The School Readiness Parent Educator also provides a broad range of services including recruiting families with 2, 3 and 4-year-old children, developing and maintaining linkages with various community resources, and is a role model and advocate for families and children.
Skills/Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required, and one (1) year of experience working with children and families required. Being actively enrolled or having completed a HIPPY program may substitute for six (6) months of experience.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English or Creole/English strongly preferred.
- Must be computer literate and have the ability to complete documents in Microsoft Office Word and Adobe Reader.
- Must possess excellent organizational, time management and case management skills.
- Able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed in order to meet the needs of the children and families served.
- Must have transportation and be willing to visit clients in their homes. Valid Permanent Florida Driver's License with full access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage (proof of insurance is required).

Counsels, coaches and teaches classes to parents who are struggling with parent/child adjustment problems. Develops and conducts professional training workshops for mental health, parenting education and educational community. Represents Children's Hospital and The Parenting Center to the media: print, radio and television by providing interviews and writing articles on child-rearing topics. Represents The Parenting Center to community, nonprofit and business organizations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education- Minimum : Master's degree in social work, education, counseling or related field.
Preferred: Parenting Center Education Courses. Knowledge base of child development. Master's Degree in Mental Health Field.
License/Certification- LMSW, RMSW, LPC, M.Ed. Preferred, LCSW.
Experience- 3-5 years experience in early childhood development, teaching adults, counseling and providing parenting education programs. Preferred, 5 or more.
