Park Chrysler Jeep company history timeline

1943

In mid-1943 Willys-Overland worked with the United States Army to develop a lightweight 4x4 vehicle that could be dropped from an airplane into combat situations.

1950

The word “Jeep” became a registered trademark of Willys-Overland in 1950.

The 1950 Jeep® CJV-35/U, a derivation of the M38, was the first production Jeep 4x4 with factory-included deep water fording capability.

1951

A long-wheelbase four-wheel drive prototype ambulance was released to the United States Army in 1951 for testing (project 6396). The ambulance was a slightly elongated 1951 Jeep® CJ-4M, another prototype in the history of the Jeep Brand.

Also, a one-off CJ-4 was produced in 1951, a hybridization of the M38-series and soon-to-come CJ-5.

1953

Willys dramatically updated its CJ line on January 28, 1953 with the CJ-3B—the first CJ with a dramatically different style from its military ancestor, the Willys MB. The CJ-3B featured a higher hood to accommodate a taller “Hurricane” “F-head” engine.

1960

While these vehicles did not capture the undivided attention of the masses, they were a valid attempt at becoming something “more” than what Jeep® appeared to be in 1960, and opened the door for other models that were to come…

1964

In 1964, Kaiser promoted the Tuxedo Park as it’s own separate model (Tuxedo Park Mark IV) for the CJ-5A and CJ-6A. The Tuxedo Park Mark IV included several options that set it apart from the standard Jeep®. These options included:

1965

In 1965, a new FJ-6 version was built on the CJ-6 platform.

Jeep® CJ-5A Tuxedo Park’s were used in Lyndon B. Johnson’s inaugural presidential parade in 1965.

1966

Just wondering what a 1966 tuxedo park is worth? Good condition.

1971

In 1971, the Jeep® Gladiators were the only United States pickups to have four-wheel drive as standard and were completely at home in the toughest roughest country.

One of the rarest of rare Jeep vehicles is the 1971 Commando “Hurst Special,” a AMC / Hurst joint promotion that featured a dual-gate Hurst shifter, ABS hoodscoop, 8,000 rpm racing tach, and blue and red exterior rally stripes.

1973

Beginning in 1973, all Jeep® CJs came equipped with AMC-built 304- or 360-cubic-inch V-8 engines.

The revolutionary Quadra-Trac® 4x4 system, introduced in 1973, was available in full-size Jeep® Brand trucks and wagons, and later in the CJ-7.

2005

In 2005, a new Gladiator concept vehicle was introduced as a prototype for the possible direction the Jeep® Brand might take in the near future.

2021

Coming Summer 2021.THE START OF A GRAND JOURNEY,THE START OF A GRAND JOURNEY,A new set of standards for the premium SUV is here.
