Overview
Position Summary: Per Diem - ASL Interpreter. The Language and Cultural Specialist under general supervision, provides interpreting services in a culturally sensitive manner to facilitate communication and the relaying of medical information between speakers of different languages at CHLA. Collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care. Complies with applicable office and hospital policies and procedures particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent.
Minimum Qualifications: 1+ years' experience interpreting in a healthcare setting, including experience working with the community and/or a target language population with a diversity of cultural/socio-economic backgrounds. Experience as medical interpreter with strong medical vocabulary including vocabulary of medical specialties. Competency in written and verbal communication skills in English and the designated foreign language. Ability to interpret medical terminology. May be required to interpret for patients representing the full range of developmental and educational levels.
Education/Licensure/Certifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related discipline or any area related to science or human services preferred. Completion of a minimum of 40 hour Healthcare Interpreter training. For spoken language interpreters.
