The reporting location for this position is Antelope Valley CA Poppy Reserve in Lancaster, CA. This position will work under supervision of the Supervising State Park Ranger.
Antelope Valley CA Poppy Reserve is looking to hire seasonal Visitor Services Park Aides. Duties will include operating the entrance station, collection of park fees, and completing end-of-day cash register accounting and associated collections paperwork. These positions are a primary point of contact for park visitors and will provide information on the park(s), explain, and advise park rules, and give directions to park facilities, surrounding area features and establishments. Required skills are reporting of park issues and problems to lead staff, basic reading, writing and math skills. Reliable transportation is essential due to the remote work location. This is a uniformed position, and the successful candidate will be required to purchase and wear a state Parks uniform.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
Possession of a valid driver license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. THE ROLE

Performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled labor jobs in maintaining and improving Park District resources and facilities, maintains buildings, and sets up facilities for public functions, etc. Performs mainly routine tasks in maintenance and landscaping.
RATE OF PAY: $10.70 per hour
Hours: Up to 28 hours per week.
Requirements
Cleans buildings (i.e., sanitizes, sweeps, mops, etc.), structures (i.e., shelters, restrooms, etc.), and other park facilities.
Performs routine landscaping tasks including but not limited to mowing, pruning, weeding, mulching, watering, fertilizing, seeding, etc.
Litter and trash pickup.
Maintains facilities, and storage areas, empties trash, etc.
Sets up facilities (i.e., chairs, tables, A/V equipment).
Operates vehicles and equipment (i.e., pickup trucks, tractors, mowers, Gators, and other heavy equipment).
Repairs building equipment as needed.
Installs and maintains split-rail fencing, etc.
Light lifting (up to 50 pounds).
Staining and painting.
Assists with purchases of supplies as authorized.
Communicate with other staff, supervisors, and park visitors, both in writing and verbally.
Participates in park safety programs and adheres to Park District policies and standards.
Able to work in all weather conditions.
Performs related duties as apparent or assigned.
Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license. New employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. Lorain County Metropolitan Park District policy prohibits hiring new employees who are tobacco users.
