This is routine cashier and clerical work at a City parking facility. Work involves responsibility for operating a computerized cash register at a parking garage and receiving cash, validated tickets and parking passes. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed by a supervisor through observation of work in progress and review of daily reports. Operates a computerized cash register; receives tickets from patrons; calculates parking fees; receives cash payments and gives change; receives validated tickets and parking passes; maintains records of transactions. Prepares daily cashier reports; audits and balances cash transactions; groups transactions by categories, packages money. Answers routine inquiries from patrons, provides information and directions. Stocks the mechanical ticket machine with tickets and corrects minor malfunctions. Keeps the work area clean and orderly. Requires regular and prompt attendance plus the ability to work well with others and work well as a team. Reports malfunction of electronic and mechanical equipment; assists patrons in locating vehicles; obtains information from patrons when vehicles are damaged in parking garage or stolen; assists in training part-time cashiers; performs related work as required.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Work is performed in a cashier's booth on location at various parking facilities. Work exposes employee to frequent engine fumes and noise and to potential physical hazards from automobiles entering and exiting parking facilities. Work requires sitting for long periods of time in confined spaces, and occasional walking, stooping, bending, climbing and lifting light objects. Work also requires physical dexterity in the frequent use of hand-eye coordination and manipulative skills using fingers, limbs and body in the operation of office equipment.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and some experience as a cashier; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of arithmetic and business English. Some knowledge of basic bookkeeping principles and practices. Some knowledge of computerized cash registers. Ability to operate a computerized cash register and other office machines, to make rapid and accurate calculations, to balance cash transactions, and prepare reports. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish effective working relationships with superiors, subordinate employees, employees of other departments, civic center officials, patrons using the facility and the general public.
