Diagnostic Medical Sonographers use imaging devices that emit sound waves to create the image that will help physicians assess and diagnose various conditions. There are different kinds of imaging devices, this includes ultrasounds, sonograms, and echocardiograms. Generally sonographic imaging devices use a handheld probe, which is moved over the area being surveyed to create a two-dimensional or three-dimensional image. These devices can be used for therapy, diagnosis, and even to guide interventional procedures like biopsies or draining fluid collections. By joining the team as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will get to work with critical patients, assisting with identifying the medical issue to inform the diagnosis and develop the care plan. This opportunity provides hands-on learning and the ability to enhance your skills each day at an elite healthcare organization. **A caregiver in this position works nights from 10:30PM - 7:00AM.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Perform diagnostic sonographic imaging through the application of non-ionizing, high-frequency sound waves for patients of all ages. + Perform ultrasound studies (i.e. obstetrical, GYN, abdominal, retro peritoneal, small parts, pediatric, and vascular). + Consult with referring physicians regarding patients' medical history and selection of appropriate procedures and equipment required for proper diagnosis. + Review charts, previous reports and requisition prior to the exam. + Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation. + Ensure patients' comfort and safety during and after the exam. + Assist with scheduling of patients and schedule all emergency patients for diagnostic ultrasound procedures. + Monitor all appointments scheduled for ultrasound examinations. + Perform preliminary research on patients when preparations are not provided and determine priority of patients based on the daily schedules. + Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS. + Complete after hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork. + Immediately report any malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator. + Process billing via RIS. + Ensure proper function of ultrasound equipment and notify clinical engineering of any equipment malfunctions. + Adequately supply exam rooms with linen and related medical supplies. + Assist with clinical instruction of ultrasound students and residents and in-service education of caregivers. + Assist with orienting new caregivers to the equipment, department procedures and scanning protocols. + Demonstrate ultrasound equipment for caregivers and visitors. + Potentially rotate through all diagnostic imaging modalities, sites and/or locations. + Assist in new investigative techniques, procedures and equipment. + Maintain the most up to date knowledge in the field through self-motivated education and attendance of appropriate conferences and symposiums. + RDMS must be maintained and in good standing. + If working within the Imaging Institute, perform non-invasive vascular studies to include veins, arteries, pulse volume readings and assist the physician during invasive studies. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Graduate of an accredited school in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and in good standing + Registered Diagnostic Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) RT(S) or RT(VS) upon hire + One certification within abdominal (RDMS, AB), OB/GYN (RDMS, OB/GYN) or vascular (RVT, VT) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) upon hire.
